    Is CNN left-wing biased?

Check out the following interview from this morning with Mayor Giuliani, and make your own determination. In particular, listen to Soledad Obrien as they start to discuss Libya, and take a look at the other reporters chiming in.

They simply can't help themselves, as their left-wing ideology just bubbles over.

The mayor actually has to call her out on it.

O'Brien is the only one I have a huge problem with, as this type of thing happens regularly. I think most of the others on the network are liberals, but don't let it affect their reporting very much.

Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan clearly tilt to the left, but on balance, I do not find the network as a whole that biased in the stories they cover the way MSNBC or Fox are.

    Re: Is CNN left-wing biased?

As I've said before, in terms of personalities, presentation, and focus...

Fox News revels in their general staunch right leaning slant

MSNBC revels in their general staunch left leaning slant

CNN attempts to temper and moderate their left leaning slant.

    Essentially....

    If a 50 was a purely neutral entity, 0 a purely liberal, and 100 a purely conservative....

Fox would be a 75. MSNBC would be a 25. CNN would likely be a 35 to 40 by and large.

I like Soledad Obrien though, even though she's way out of line here. Her special reports are usually pretty good.

American TV journalism, on the whole, has gone down the tubes.

This interview certainly isn't "unbiased reporting." That's self-evident.

I only access CNN.com and CNNMoney. I don't have cable TV so I can't speak to that. I don't notice terribly much of a bias, except the usual bias toward attention-grabbing material. This means they won't talk about a lot of complex issues. Just stuff that will capture the attention span of the most viewers/readers.

There may be a bit of a bias but it's nothing that gets in the way of their journalism and news-delivery. The same cannot be said for the other two cable "news" networks.

I hear various people say it is, but since I never watch TV I have no idea.

    Re: Is CNN left-wing biased?

CNN has a pretty good mix of pundits. Their partisans are for the most part fairly reasonable (or at least good-natured and upfront about it), and their hosts do a good job of being balanced.

Sometimes, the result is that their coverage is very hokey and not very deep, though.

CNN is the only network I watch, because I can't stand MSNBC or FOXNews.

    Re: Is CNN left-wing biased?

CNN does lean left. This close to an election is when you really notice it. I remember in 2008 about this time, I was deployed overseas and I had limited choices of news channels, and I watched a lot of CNN’s coverage of that election…and it was horrible. I was so frustrated from that I blocked CNN channels on my TV when I got home. However, I know CNN can be ok at times, but again, when it gets so close to a Presidential election their journalism standards seem to go out the window.

As far as Fox News Channel, as I often say, when they are reporting the news like they do most of the day, they are truly fair and balanced. Some people seem to confuse the opinion shows for the actual news reporting, and they think Fox is some sort of MSNBC type place where it is 24/7 opinion shows. Watch Fox most of the day, it is showing a fair assessment of what is going on. Now, if you are watching Hannity that is clearly a conservative leaning opinion type show, don’t judge the whole channel because of that. Hannity is the most right leaning there. As for the others: O’Reilly is an independent and it shows; The Five is a mixed bag; Greta Van Susteren is a moderate (I remember when she was on CNN). The only reason Fox is so incredibly successful, is because one, there apparently was a market for fair and balance reporting that wasn’t being filled. Two, those opinion shows weren’t being showed anywhere else.
