I could stand to lose 10 lb. and I could do that by cutting down my beer ration. I enjoy weight training, free and machine. Running bores the hell out of me, though for some reason I don't mind the tread mill at the gym. Hiking trails and mountains are fun. We'll do more of that now that the weather is tolerable, as we do every "fall" and "winter".
Stress really is a nasty, nasty thing. I consciously work to avoid as much of it as I can. That includes avoiding stress carriers, drama mamas, toxic bastards and stressful situations I can avoid. You're going to have some stressful people and situations you cannot avoid, but I work at keeping them to a minimum. Meditation has greatly helped me to handle the stress I cannot avoid.
I have elevated cholesterol. The Doc put me on Zocor. I tried for a week. I can't stand drugs. I take maybe 2 aspirins a year. Blood pressure is good. Other emergency retinal surgery for a retinal tare I've never had any surgery. I did have Melanoma, stage two dug out of my right arm, but that's really it. Non-disease related, I have bi-lateral hearing loss since Vietnam.
Years ago I smoked, until I hated it. I wanted every cigarette to taste like the first one. They never did. I still smoke cigars from time to time, but I don't inhale.
Overall: good health. I'm just fortunate as I can't take credit for most of it.
Attributes:
Good woman. Most important. She keeps me real.
Good dogs. Very important. They are non-judgemental and essential to good mental and physical health. Their love, like my wife's is unconditional. You can have too many wives, but you can't have too many dogs. Dogs never complain about your driving habits or your farting in bed.
Living where the life suits me. I'm happy where I live. Yeah, I'd love to live in France, Boulder, Vancouver, New Orleans, Athens, Ga., Portland, Seattle, Missoula, Banff, Ireland, UK, Puerto Vallarta, San Filipe, Montevideo or Tucson, Sante Fe or Austin. But, you can't live everywhere. I love where I am.
Lifestyle.
Laughing to me is very important. I never miss the chance, especially when I'm laughing at myself, which seems to be more and more these days. I even laugh when I am alone sometimes. Why not?
I haven't owned a suit or a tie except for once in 20 years. (I had to go to traffic court in Ajo for criminal speeding when coming back from Mexico after a long weekend. Criminal speeding in Arizona is 20 miles over the speed limit. Good cop, great judge, traffic school and I have kept my word to the judge in Ajo to never speed in his town again. Also, at his request I've stopped in Ajo on occasion and spent time in the town and have had the pleasure of meeting some of the people there. I'm a better man for it.)
I don't hate anyone, or anything, to my knowledge.
Limited television viewing. Sports, an occasional movie and an occasional British comedy. I do not watch network television. I do not watch television "news". Not watching television is a great stress reliever.
Vitamins and herbs. I take vitamins, herbal supplements, Krill oil, probiotics and resveratrol.
Music. I listen to good music as often as possible, especially at work when i don't have to talk to people.
Travel. The world is full of wonderful people. Most of the people in the world are friendly and kind, even when you can't share a common language. Travel has helped me love the world and life in general.
More than anything I'm a lucky sumbitch. I have no idea why. Neither does anyone else, i might add.
