Re: I am genuinely curious ....

I would say poor health for my age, all of which is my own doing. I used to be a very active person and in great shape but then (about 11 years ago) I made the transition from physical jobs to office work. As a result I let myself free fall into physical inactivity and its not uncommon for me to spend 14 hours a day in front of a keyboard, this coupled with being a heavy smoker for 24 years, has taken its toll on me. I did manage to quit smoking back in March but I am finding it real hard not to simply plop my butt down and waste the day away at a PC.

My personal nemesis is the PC, the single biggest life changing moment is the day I purchased my first home PC and internet hookup. My life is almost a complete 180 from what it was just 15 years ago, unfortunately none of it positive. I was an avid outdoors-man that spent most of my free time fishing, hunting, hiking, swimming, camping, and sports. Now its pc games, coding software, office work, internet forums, TV and movies (on the pc). I have not spent any significant time in outdoor activities in years and the inactivity has ruined both my physical and mental health.

I am still young enough that I can reverse most of this damage but I find it very difficult to motivate myself into anything different. Maybe tomorrow.....LoL

I'm not in the best of physical health. I have diabetes, adrenal insufficiency, depression, bouts of insomnia, a 15 mm kidney stone that refuses to pass, back problems and sleep apnea. I take medication for the depression, so that's under control, but I'm struggling with the diabetes despite the meds and I'm trying to slowly wean off medication for the adrenal problem with very limited success. Every time I decrease the dosage, I experience profound fatigue. Very annoying. Socially, I'm doing great and I just got my nursing license so I'm on cloud nine about that

    8. He doesn't know if they match. This is why you have girlfriends and gay men.
    9. If Twilight is playing, he has the right to go see a Wesley Snipes movie in the other theater, as long as both movies end within a half hour of each other. If bored, play some pinball.
    10. Don't change the radio station. You don't need to ask why. Just don't.

This is but a small part of the list, but a good start.

Re: I am genuinely curious ....

I am in my mid-50's, and take no medications at all, am not overweight, am still able to turn over a decent sized garden bed with a shovel, and carry large bags of compost and topsoil, so I'd say I'm still in good shape for my age. Of course physically I'm past my prime, but emotionally, mentally, and intellectually, I've never been better.

All that being said, I'm not one to seek medical care or attention. I hate taking medications, I eat and drink whatever I want, and I enjoy my life and do not avoid indulging in whatever I want. I'm hoping that if life is long, I develop an abdominal aortic aneurysm, and go out quickly.

One thing I enjoyed about being married was doting on my wife for no reason other than making her feel good and making her friends jealous. I would send her flowers at work, and my reward was her friends praising me for it. Their husbands didn't like being being shown up, so soon everyone started receiving flowers at work and the boss nicely asked us to stop. I would occasionally put a note in her car, she and a friend would go to lunch, her friend would see the note and it made her look good to others. I would take the boys out and be gon at the time she would come home, a note telling her where we went, and that new bath salts were waiting for her in the upstairs bathroom.

In return I was never asked if 'X' made her look fat, or to go clothes shopping, or to ever hold her purse, or bothered during a fav TV show (I'm not into sports, but House/Modern-Marvels ftw).

When it was good, it was real good.

Don't know how you're doing on money-- I'm indigent and unemployable-- but the charity clinic where I receive my treatment runs a health and fitness group that allows me into the YMCA gym three times a week for 'free' (the price of my usual group therapy, which is $0).

I'm also indigent and unemployable - I'm currently on social security and medicare.... If you gave me a dollar for every job I've had (and lost), I would probably be a millionaire (joke, of course). I may look into YMCA for fitness myself - my support team has recommended that to me before. As far as group therapy, I was into this spin group for schizophrenics before I recently moved to Maine - that was very helpful and am still trying to find a comparable situation here....

I know how it is, my friend - it can get better, but never easier...

edited to add: It sounds like your situation is worse (financially speaking) than mine - granted I'm poor, but there is that safety net. I also live with my (relatively) well off parents, who are getting up there in age.... When they start having their own health problems, I may have to enter some kind of group home - and I don't look forward to it...
