Re: I am genuinely curious ....

I have to admit to at least a small degree of disappointment. I saw the word "curious" and was thinking it might be about something else

But, to answer the question, I suppose I am doing well enough for a man of my age. I lost a bunch of weight last year so can now say I am not overweight at all, I don't suffer from any particular malady other than my skin cancer that needs to be carved off every couple of years and I am quite active. My father just turned 92 and my mother 89, so I do suppose I have two or three good decades left in me.

I am in decent shape with the exception of smoking cigarettes. I used to think I was depressed, but I realize it was all in my mind. Once I accepted that I was doing things that made my life miserable and stopped making poor choices, life got a lot better.

I'm in pretty decent health, with the exception of being overweight.

I understand your condition. I'm sorry. I have someone close to me that would share your description of himself. We happen to have discovered the root cause of his condition; it's just about a mm in size. I hope you have an advocate.

I retired early, caught in a religion based RIF. I'm in very good health; but, genetically I probably have a high probability for coming down with an insidious condition. I participate and compete in a physical sport that has an old person’s age bracket that I exceed by 16 years. My endoscopy was perfect last week, oh boy.

Re: I am genuinely curious ....

I'm more or less fully retired, and I do nothing I don't want to do. I am a heavy smoker, have been for decades and will never quit. I am overweight. I'm not mentally ill, but I do have to consciously manage my moods. If I have an argument IRL with more than one person in the same day, I know I am irritable and need to pull down and get centered.

I will never have any test for cancer; I haven't even had a pap smear in like 20 years. I want to live the life I want, and then die. Immediately upon falling ill.

Too many of my friends have undergone horrific courses of treatment and lost all quality of life as they battle some dread disease. I do not think younger adults should do as I do -- and I did not myself, before I was 40. But I do think that a quest to live to be 100 years old, no matter what, is slightly crazy.

I'm a bit overweight, don't sleep that much (law school), stressed, a few mental issues although not as many as what it was a few years ago. I don't drink as much as I use to, although that is now changing (law school), do not get to run as much as I would like because of my busy week. That said, after midterms my life will calm down a bit and I get set up a scheduled run time.

I'll echo what a previous poster said - I have serious mental issues (am on medication), am overweight and smoke cigs - I am also genuinely unhappy. I don't do much cardiovascular exercise or what not.... May even have to go to a 12 step program, as I currently feel "powerless."

    Alas, I voted no.

    Fascinating.

I am a healthcare provider (FNP) and it has been my life's work. Exactly as you I seek no dx tests or medical interventions. I would not undergo aggressive tx such as chemotherapy or renal dialysis. Certainly I respect and support others decisions about such.

I am plant strong (almost vegan), avid in physical exercise (running, yoga, biking, skiing), and feel healthy. Like you I never seek physicals, medical services or screening. No smoking, a small glass of of on some days and I do not take medication.

Right now I am working about 50 hours per week and that is the only part of my life that feels unhealthy. I love what I do for work ... yet would like a bit more discretionary time.

It sounds like you know exactly what you want and how to handle your moods. That is very cool.

I hope I die like most of the females in my family ... they are active and engaged and in their late eighties they just keel over.

I do not want anyone to take care of me.
