Why do we not sing the national anthem in our schools like almost every other nation?

I came to the US in 2nd grade and found the pledge of allegiance very odd.

During the Olympics I was like, hey, maybe I should learn my national anthem, took me about 2-3 days of casual practice to learn it.

I've never heard of any American school that has students singing the anthem daily, shiang. I wasn't even aware that other nations do this.

The Pledge Of Allegiance is adequate, IMO. We can't spare another 15 minutes daily for this singing; some of our students can't even read.

I think it's enough to hear it.

In Canada we listen to the national anthem daily before lunch time or in the morning depending on your school...

But all in all whether it's the anthem or the pledge of allegance I find the whole thing rediculious... I mean do we really have to make all kids swear allegiance to the country every single day like good little soldiers?

No we do not, it's almost fascist in nature and I believe has no place in any nations schools.

That's why you see other nations singing their anthems at the podium and you see most of the american athletes struggling to mouth the words.

I'm not 100% sure on western nations, I'm fairly confident that's the case in most of Asian and Africa.

@Jetboogieman agree it's not like there's not enough "national pride" and loyalty going around in the world.

This was more of an education policy poll weather you think our education system doesn't have enough faith in their students.

I have to say, I find the whole practice of making kids recite or sing the anthem or the pledge to be creepy. It smacks of propaganda. Like something they'd make you do at an old school Chinese re-education camp or something. The US actually is a pretty decent country. We shouldn't have to employ brainwashing techniques to convince kids of that, we should teach them history and international affairs and whatnot and let them come to that conclusion (or not) on their own. The goal shouldn't be a generation of people who have some pre-programmed pavolian response that tells them that the US can do no wrong, the goal should be to be a country that informed people who think for themselves conclude is a good country on their own.

I've never thought of the "too superficial and over the top" response, that's interesting.

Being the melting pot and all, would make sense to go easy on the immigrants who don't speak a word of English.

Initially I thought it was because they didn't want to make the 1 or 2 kids that can't sing it fell bad.

If you sing the national anthem on daily basis, you will wear it out. So, don't.

It kind of creeps me out already that we make our kids recite the pledge of allegiance in the morning. And it's a waste of time too. Plus our National anthem is hard enough for an adult to sing, I don't know many kids who'd be able to. There's lots of good reasons not to.

What "other nations" sing their national anthems in schools?

    Every day?

All kids no matter what age?

    Please inform.
