I sang my countries national anthem every day in primary school, and once a week in high school.
So follow me into the desert
    As desperate as you are
Where the moon is glued to a picture of heaven
And all the little pigs have God

How long ago was that? Do they still do it today? Australia?

I sang it once a week on a Friday, both verses.
And that was an independent, Christian School.

I'm pretty sure it's strongly recommended in all high schools, not sure about primary.

I don't mind the Spar Spangled Banner, it's no more tonally demading than Advance Australia Fair (and it sounds nicer) but I find the Plegde of Allegience odd.

I grew up in Britain at a time when the national anthem was played before football matches, at the end of cinema and theatre performances, and even when the TV shut down at midnight. We never sang it, and didn't do so in school either. I must have learned the words by osmosis. I checked with the kids, and none of them remembers ever singing the national anthem at school, and certainly not on a regular basis. Nowadays we only hear it at sporting events on the rare occasions we win something.

I finished high school 3 years ago. It's still done. Yes, Australia. Though at my school we only sang the first verse, so it's not near as long as the star spangled banner.

In America, singing is gay. Only celebrities do it.
