It is an infringement of liberty that serves no practical purpose, and disenfranchises a lot of poor people, students, and the elderly. We all know it's a politically calculated move to prevent Democratic voters from casting their ballots. Can we please stop pretending it's anything else?

It has a very practical purpose- that of preventing fraudulent voting, and preserving the integrity of our voting process.

I would like to see some support for this statement. I'm relatively new here, so please forgive me if asking for citation is out of line.

No. An extremist position such as this is just as bad as those proclaiming that we have a serious voter fraud issue and that the Democrats are encouraging illegal immigrants to vote.

False. It doesn't disenfranchise anyone. People who claim that they can't afford an ID can get a free ID.

So when the Republican Pennsylvania House majority leader says that the Voting ID law will help win Romney the election, that's not preserving the integrity of our voting process.

Re: Are you for or against vote ID to vote?

Upon further research, the Texas law was struck down because it refused alternative ID. I can understand that. If you bring documentation and an explanation, you should be allowed to vote. Just showing up with nada - nope, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Still though, why is it so hard to get ID in a world that constantly requires it? I don't understand how you can function without it.

I don't really care who says what, about whom, as long as the integrity of the process is preserved and people are voting in an honest manner.
