Has President Obama received more disrespect and hate than revious presidents?

I agree. I really wanted Hillary to get the nomination. Apparantly the dems did not agree.

Actually, I am not that big on Hillary. She is WAY too status quo for my tastes.

Germany's Merkel, for example, is also too status quo, imo. But of all the EU leaders that I know of, I have more respect for her opinions then any other.

But frankly, almost ANY woman as POTUS is probably a step in the right direction.

Except Sarah Palin...yikes!!!

I want someone with significant knowledge/intelligence and common sense...not someone who is attractive, keeps crib notes and knows how to wink.

I don't think so. He hasn't from me. Bill and Hillary Clinton where on my party my ass off if they die list long before Obama made that list.

it's hard to say. Clinton, Bush, and Obama have all been treated pretty horribly by the opposition.

I just learned from Ryan that Obama is a criminal that should be prosecuted by watching the Republican convention on CNN.
I learn somethig new every day.

I think conservatives are just eager to give at least as much disrespect to Obama as they perceive Bush to have received. It's obviously revenge, since no discussion on how much disrespect he's gotten is ever complete until grievances over Bush's treatment is brought up.

It seems to me that President Obama and his administration has received more disrespect and fear mongering than many previous presidencies. With the whole "birther" controversy, the allegation that Obama is a Muslim, Governor Brewer putting her hand in the President's face, the idea that Obama was brainwashed with Communist ideas by a mentor while he was young, the idea that Obama hates America, etc etc etc.

What are your thoughts?

There's no real way to measure it, but I don't think so. It always seems like the current President is receiving more criticism and disrespect than any previous one, but I think most of them get about the same amount of it, with the newer stuff just being fresher in our minds.

Probably about the same, although since Bush has served two terms in office Bush has gotten more hate and disrespect than Obama. The die hard anti-Bush tards falsely accusing Bush of lying for war, stealing elections, accusing him of being a moron, draft dodger, masterminding 911 and other nonsense. The die hard anti-Obama tards are falsely accusing Obama of not being a natural born citizen, being a Muslim, being a Marxist, and criticizing him for using a teleprompter.

Given the outrageous campaign ads his side is using, Obama has nothing to complain about.

He came into office as a superstar. He then earned disrespect.

Which outrageous ads did Obama run? Romney approved of the "pants on fire", 4 "Pinocchio" ad falsely claiming that Obama lifted the work requirement for welfare.

I don't hate anybody and you've got to respect anyone that pulls off becoming president. I just have 4 questions and it's regarding that oathe they take when they are sworn in. Can a president be charged with felony perjury for breaking that oathe and how do we go about enforcing that? Who is responsible for making the arrest and who do we complain to if we feel there should be charges brought forth?

Bush was not disrespected when he took office. In my opinion Obama was disrespected from the first day of term.

 yeah, after the Florida 2000 debacle everyone was just peachy

No.

Reagan was hated on almost as bad.

Bush I about as bad.

Billy Boy, about the same.

Bush II even worse.

I like how you didn't include under Obama's parachute the socialist remarks.

No one questioned the white man's citizenship though Goshin. That is a new level of disrespect imho.

Personally I think that Bush received more disrespect than Obama. Accusations that Bush plotted and enacted 9/11 or that he is a war criminal are far more disrespectful than partisan attacks and "birther" movements.

I think it's been pretty even on both sides, really. Some criticism of Bush and Obama was justified and some wasn't, but both of them got a crapload of it thrown at them.

I was young during the GWB's presidency and was only really getting into politics during the time of his second term, so that's all I have to go off of, except what I read in history.

Naw.

Bush got trashed on bad, even now, people still trash on Bush every now and then.

Also, where's the poll? Derp.

Bush got it bad, but people have been disrespecting Obama since he was elected. Bush got respect in the early years of his presidency. Obama has been curtailed the whole time. His first piece of legislation got ZERO votes from Republicans. They have been bad mouthing him before he slept in the white house.

I don't even think it is close. Obama has been disrespected big time. I hear all the time from my right wing friends who even refuse to call him the president. "Obammer" "Obummer" "Hussein" "Worst president of all time" etc etc etc

I cannot recall any other sitting president getting near the disrespect as Obama and that includes Bush during his latter years.

Yes and no. While Bush's claimed religion and place of birth had never been an issue of suspicion (though it was in terms of policy), I submit that President Bush had received a great deal of disrespect and hate. It is really hard to ignore the constant "stolen election" claims, the Hitler/fascist rhetoric, the 9/11 conspiracy nutters, the war criminal cries, and so forth. It's hard to compare and then score from one President to another, but again, both Presidents received an enormous amount of hate.

You forget the 2000 election and the election fraud claims. A significant portion of the American public that were aligned with the other party claimed that the election was stolen and that the American democracy was sold out. It was a cloud over his Presidential legitimacy until the September 11th attacks, and remained through the first term. A minor example would be the rhetoric of Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and how much it focused on that as well as blaming Gore himself for letting the ooze of Bush spread. Up to the reelection campaign, there was a suspicion that the election would be once again stolen. Toward the end of his Presidency it wasn't uncommon to hear folks on the left believe that somehow Bush would suspend elections in 2008.

No, he won because the country was not ready for a women president, and the opposition was just not electable.

I don't think so. Mrs. Clinton was the only viable woman candidate who still had negatives and made some unrecoverable blunders during the campaign.

And I think America was ready for a black POTUS in 1996 but Powell didn't want the job.
