yes. But he's practicing an ancient form of tribal magic wherein he spends less than he brings in.

As for the OP, I don't know. I buy the point about saturation, but I think that here we risk ignoring the importance of timing. It's easy for us obsessives to forget this, but most undecideds are also lower-information voters, who are going to wait until the last month to a month and a half or so to even start making up their minds. Having the cash on hand THEN (and for the follow-up ground game on election day) is what I would be aiming at.

I'm generally skeptical that money plays a big role in electoral outcomes for high-profile races like the presidency. Maybe it does for some anonymous congressional challenger who can't get recognized any other way, but everyone has heard of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Generally speaking, they're going to vote for whoever they're going to vote for, regardless of campaign advertisements. The exception to this might be people who haven't yet formed an opinion about one of the candidates...in this case, probably Mitt Romney. Therefore whichever campaign can do a better job defining Mitt Romney will have spent its money better IMO. So far that's been Obama's team.

Romney is outraising obama significantly if you account for the superpacs. Without those, the funds are not dramatically different from what I understand.

    Here are the numbers

    2012 Presidential Race | OpenSecrets

I believe these numbers to be accurate but I am not sure how up to date.
