The IRS offered amnesty to quite a few people that were involved with doing their taxes in ways similar to what the Romney’s did. And you know that the only place that shows up is in amended tax forms. If the Romney’s were offered and accepted amnesty would that be a nonissue for you?

loaded question. Unless you can prove that Romney has accepted amnesty, it is useless to address your question till then.
Your question makes as much sense as saying IF President Obama beats his wife and kids would it be a non issue. Speculation does no one any good.

But to somewhat answer. any person running for pubic office who has broken tax laws, been convicted, or taken a plea deal, it would be good to know. I am not aware this is the case with Romney. Many people amend their tax forms to make corrections or additions to the submission without it being amnesty from the IRS.

Speculation is the basis for a lot of good work. I did it in engineering. We would speculate on how some design could fail and what the result would be, etc. Some of what Bain did invites speculation. Recent documents invite speculation. If Obama’s wife showed up bruised from an obvious beating you are saying you would not speculate. I would. Yup, many people amend their tax submittal. The fines for amnesty do show up according to what I’ve been informed.

All we have here is are groups of people on both sides with some fantastic notion the the other guy is hiding something...that the other guy will do ANYTHING to keep it hidden...that that something must be so important they will go to any lengths to not reveal it.

What we have here are taxers and birthers and transcripters who are nuts. Who are fitted with tinfoil hats.

And you've got the size of yours down to a T.

And you think it's normal for campaigns to help their opponents tear down their own candidate.

Who is the one not thinking?

I asked you this:

Can you name another campaign in history where a candidate's campaign actively helped its opponents tear down their own candidate?

You failed to answer.

You more or less have to amend and attach a statement explaining the voluntary disclosure:

Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Romney won't release his 2009 as that's the most likely year he came forth on voluntary disclosure.

I only call it like I see it. I mean, for god sakes, that statement about the Caymans is a perfect example of the crazy rhetoric I spoke of.

But, like birthers, taxers will say any stupid, ridiculous thing...if they somehow think it applies to their mindset.

Don't you think that's rather pathetic?

Not really. People who understand the time frame, the scandals and political campaigns understand why Romney won't release before 2010.

You, on the other hand, think it's NORMAL for campaigns to actively help their opponents fuel dirty rumors about their own candidate that hurt their chances of reelection.

I keep pointing out how the longer Romney refuses to release, the more people think he's hiding something. And actual tax experts (read: Not You) are coming forth saying there is basically only a few things that Romney can actually be hiding that are worth hiding. The UBS scandal is the #1 on the list at the moment. Just google "Romney, UBS, Voluntary Disclosure" and the hits start coming and they are coming from tax experts.

You are so partisan that you think it's normal for campaigns who want to win to actively help their opponents win instead.

And here is YOUR brand of stupid, crazy taxer talk...and you keep repeating it. Evidently, you think that if you keep saying it...it'll someday be true. It won't.

The rest of your screed is nothing more than liberal taxer bull****. You know, a whole bunch of Bain and Romney financial records have been hacked and release a couple of days ago. That means y'all have had two days to look for something damaging. LOL!! Since then...nothing. That should tell you something, don't you think? Heck, even Obama's campaign has stopped making a big deal about Romney's tax records.

You got nothing...and that bugs the **** out of you.

I don't FAIL to answer...I dismiss crazy taxer bull****. That's all you got, dude.

There is something you taxers should think about. The birthers had their share of nutjobs...but even the craziest of them...Trump, for instance...knew when to shut up.

You guys aren't smart enough to figure out when to quit.

Frankly, I expect Obama to put out the word to you guys to shut the **** up before you CAUSE him to lose.

I don't FAIL to answer...I dismiss crazy taxer bull****. That's all you got, dude.

Again, not my fault you have no grasp of the topic at hand.

Do you even know what UBS is? I seriously doubt it.

Again, you're the one arguing it is normal for campaigns to help their opponents spread dirty rumors about themselves.

Not me. I'm in fact saying that's WHY Romney has something worse. You seem to think it's normal campaign behavior to help your opponents tear your own candidate down.

You guys aren't smart enough to figure out when to quit.

This coming from a guy who thinks its normal for campaigns to actively help their opponents spread dirty rumors about their own candidate.

Look "Mr. I think Yelling makes a good argument,"

I pointed out how Romney's steadfast refusal casts suspicion. I pointed out how there is really only 1 scandal within 2009 that is of any real material. I pointed out how Romney's refusal actively helps the Obama campaign tear down Romney and cast him as dishonest, secretive and unwilling to be frank with America.

You, however, have not even shown you even understand what a tax scandal is. You have redefined what a taxer is to include anyone who even THINKS there is something questionable in Romney's returns. I'm not calling for Romney to release. In fact, I have repetitively stated I agree with his stance NOT to release concerning the likelihood of a UBS scandal. You haven't even shown you know what UBS is.

Where birthers are based on an inherent dislike of Obama, I'm merely pointing out that Romney is actively helping Obama's rumor on him. I also pointed out the timeframe in question and the sole real scandal.

You seem to think it's all crazy for people to think that Romney has something in the return that's bad. And you are entirely unwilling to even attempt to answer my question about when was the last time you saw a campaign that actively helped its opponent spread a dirty rumor about itself for so long.

That leads me to believe you think it's normal for campaigns to help their opponents in tearing themselves down.

That leads me to believe you are insanely partisan.

I agree with Romney not to release. The Democrats would have a field day if the UBS scandal got out. Much better for people to think he paid little legally.

HAHA!!!

That, what? The tenth time you posted that crazy taxer talk to me? Do you REALLY think you are making a point here?

Like I said...you aren't smart enough to figure out when to quit.

You are not following OC's point. It is simply political calculations. If it is less damaging politically to release the tax forms, you release them. If it is less damaging to not release them, you don't. Note that phrase "damaging politically", which is different from being illegal, immoral, or inappropriate. Romney could have done nothing wrong, but still have things in his tax records that would be damaging politically.

You know, claims against birtherism actually rely upon facts. Your SOLE defense is "YOU'RE A TAXER, THEREFORE YOU'RE WRONG"

Well, that's because he's a hardcore partisan and it's election season. Thinking often goes out the window.

It is simply political calculations. If it is less damaging politically to release the tax forms, you release them. If it is less damaging to not release them, you don't. Note that phrase "damaging politically", which is different from being illegal, immoral, or inappropriate. Absolutely. Romney could upload a copy of his 2005~2009 returns in less than 20 minutes and utterly show the claim he paid nothing to be (rightfully) proven wrong. Hell, he doesn't even need to do it. He can get his accountant to release it for him. That's like 10 seconds of time spent in an e-mail. He'd also release something far worse in the process. This is the easiest dirty rumor to refute in a long, long time.

The ease at which Romney can prove the Democrats are so wrong on their no taxes paid claim and his steadfast refusal to do so is logically damning as to why he won't do it. Furthermore he cannot release 2004~2008 and leave a gap of 2009 without raising massive suspicion as to why he refused to release 2009. He has to release a continuous block to allay suspicion.

Romney would be truly idiotic to actually release. It is sooooooooooo much better for voters to think you got high powered attorneys to get you to zero liability legally then it is to admit you got caught in an international tax shelter scandal.

And again...the broken record skips.

yawn...

Well, I can't expect much thinking from someone who's best argument is "YOU'RE A TAXER, THEREFORE YOU'RE WRONG!"

And your refusal to actually address my point gives me free license to argue you think it's normal for campaigns to actively help their opponents spread dirty rumors about their own candidate

I get that you don't want to deal with the arguments being made here. I also get you only have one rebuttal. I also get you have no understanding of the topic.

And I get you don't like me pointing out how you think what the campaign is doing is normal.

But merely because you are unable to man up doesn't mean I have to stop with actual thinking. You are free to turn off your brain.

They are both largely immaterial but romneys taxes are slightly more relevant purely because they are more recent and are purely within his control.

Interesting you would use engineering as an example for speculation. Speculation can lead to false accusation. Those speculations can ruin a persons life. The Duke lacrosse players comes to mind.

Are you are relying on Bain rather than the IRS? What is interesting is the IRS is so silent on what Bain did and how it affects Romneys tax return. So according to you speculation is "basis for a lot of good work", lets speculate that the other party is keeping the tax thing stirred knowing they have nothing, but want to deflect from more important issues. Lets speculate that Obama is behind any false information being released during the election year. How is that helping voters decide where a candidate stands on issues?

I will ask you the same thing I asked another poster. If Romney released 7-10 years worth of tax records, how would that influence your vote? I suspect that you are not going to vote for him anyway.

Mr. Romney has few topics about which he can now speak. One by one, the substantive topics for debate are disappearing, deemed too problematic for the Romney campaign to address. Business acumen, experience as governor, US Olympics, Romney budget, women's issues, immigration reform, all toxic. Mr. Romney is reduced to dragging out the birther baggage to pad his stump speeches and give his base a few crumbs. And to call attention away from his flip-flopping on all important issues.

But what is the single issue on which Mr. Romney has never flip-flopped? He stands doggedly firm on never, under any circumstances, releasing his tax returns.

Why?

It is not just liberals who want to see Romney's tax returns.
It is 63% of American voters who do.

The longer Mr. Romney delays, the more suspicious it appears.

Obama released 8 years of tax returns
GW Bush 10 years
Clinton 12 years
GHW Bush 14 years
George Romney 12 years.

What is there to hide?
Release the tax returns, Mr. Romney.

Well said.

Only Romney can answer the question as what he is trying to hide or protect. The longer he drags this out, the worse the appearance is going to be and greater damage it possibly can do to his candidacy and electability.

You are exactly correct. Politically damaging.

Now...think about it. Obama has been harping on Romney being rich, Romney taking advantage of the tax code, etc, etc. But all of it has been wild speculation...and that speculation will only take that tactic so far. With Romney's returns, they would have a gold mine of legal tax activity to spin in the worst possible light. That's why they want the stuff.

Now. Why would Romney be stupid enough to release his records? He's better off letting the crazy taxers rant on and on with unfounded speculation than to give them what they want.

I've said before and I'll say it again: I expect Obama to put out the word to stop this taxer ****. If they keep it up, he'll get hurt.
