Euthanasia is a bit more complicated because how do you prove that it was the persons choice to have assistance committing suicide or whether it was the choice of the person doing it. That is a key difference. Killing someone without their consent is murder. Killing someone with their consent and stated desire is assisted suicide.
That is essentially what I said. It's more complicated, because the individual isn't ending his own life, but having someone else do it. If someone wanted to die, and I did not know the person, but I killed him completely unrelated to his death wish, I would be tried and likely convicted of murder. If someone wants to die, and someone else kills them, it's still killing, although euthanasia, as a legislative rule, would make it legal.

There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

So the question for the poll I am asking.

Does a person have the right to die?
I believe that suicide is for lifeís quitters. Those that commit suicide without a fitting reason are choosing to be a looser.

There are many legitimate reasons to commit suicide; health reasons such as your life will be more painful living than dyeing, or any time that your bodies cannot support itself such as someone living in a vegetative state. Honor is another reason; many cultures around the world stress living an honorable life, I certain situations a person will be dishonored in a large way and to save your name and the honor of your family (childrenís honor) you choose to die in an honorable manner. There may be others that I canít think of, not including just being sad.

Whatever the reason, whether it is medical, for honor, or you just want to quit life you should be able to make that choice. I am prochoice (not in this case related to abortion) meaning that if it does not infringe on anyone else s rights it is your right to choose.

the only sticking point i see is that we probably shouldn't extend that right to suicidally depressed young people. doctor assisted suicide is for the terminally ill. i'm not saying i wouldn't support it for some adults who have suffered through many years of ineffective treatments for some mental illnesses. i'm simply pointing out that we would have to plan for (technically adult) college kids who lose the love of their life and can't see past it. i've been there, and the motivation to end it all is very strong. on the other side, you realize what a terrible mistake it would have been.
To me, this is a reasoned response.

Personally, allowing it for the terminally ill is a no-brainer. I even support the idea for pretty much anyone, but for some of them, and for the reasons you give, I do have reservations. I would be fine with restricting it for the terminally ill only, and maybe for others over a certain age. I know some people who are simply tired and old and who see no point in continuing other than their bodies keep going.
If you claim sexual harassment to be wrong, yet you defend anyone on your side for any reason,
then you are a hypocrite and everything you say on the matter is just babble.
