I can think of two people I might ask, one family, one not. I think both of them would do it.

I would, however, make it clear that they don't have to if they can't. But honestly, I really think they would.

That is the issue I was alluding to in my previous post. Killing oneself doesn't necessarily imply that a gun or jump from a bridge is necessary. There is passive suicide, or active suicide, depending on how much resolve you have to do it. I believe the impulse to live is so strong in so many people, that they can't really do it in a rational state of mind, except for the considerably aged who really believe they have nothing to live for. As for a quad, or similarly disabled individual, I guess the best hope is that they have a medical poa or advance directive, and a doctor who is willing to let them die without intervening. Many people seem to have the misconception that letting someone die is the same thing as killing them. They are two different acts.

So the question for the poll I am asking.

Does a person have the right to die?
That is a very tragic case in my opinion.

Death with Dignity in terminal cases is legal in my state.

No ... it is legal in Oregon and should be in all states.

A person in that heartbreaking situation should not have to figure out how to hasten death. Imagine having ALS or metastatic cancer or being paralyzed form the neck down and putting a family member at a risk for murder or the fear of not being successful.

They should be able to have medical and compassionate support so they know the end will be peaceful, painless and on their terms.

People need to be responsible for their actions and that means dealing with the consequences of those actions. You act like that's a problem.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

    No.

My 'problem' is that, even though I do not smoke anymore, to not be bothered at the prospect of tens/hundreds of millions of fathers/mothers/sons/daughters who smoke dropping dead tomorrow (as you in essence typed) is callous in the extremis.
