    Does Politics Destroy Economy?

Attention economy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Given that people only have so much attention to spare, is politics inherently uneconomical in demanding that people rationalize excuses for power?

I have been, and am still, asking this poll on 12 different forums. Some are political, some economic, some philosophical. Some are aware of the overall survey, some are not.

The distribution and amount of responses among them is being compared.

Politics brings economic ideals to the masses. But its also the ideals of the few who are elected that can mess up our economy in action and words.

    Politics doesn't destroy the economy.

Politics is one of many variables that determine an economy.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

    Re: Does Politics Destroy Economy?

I would argue that while politics definitely influences the economy it begins with philosophy, which influences political ideology, which drives our politics and influences the economy. If you believe that Ayn Rand got it right, then you believe that anyone who isn't doing well, must be lazy, stupid, or a leech (Reagan's fabricated 'Welfare Queen'). You also believe that government should play no role in the economy or, contrary to what our Founding Fathers believed, in providing for the General Welfare. This kind of thinking gets you the Ryan budget plan. If you believe, that as members of this democratic society, we all accept the social contract that says we are all in this together, then 'we' are the government and government's role is to insure the ideas and ideals espoused in the Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution. This leads to a conviction that government must play a role. Regulation and taxes are necessary, for example. Our philosophy drives our actions and we all have a philosophy, whether we acknowledge it, or whether we even know what our philosophy is.
