If there was a clear mechanism to opt out of service, not necessarily conscientious objector but other excuses as well.

My Question is thus, would you serve if you are conscripted?

    Explain your answer.

Note: I'm not nessecarily focusing on fighting china, more of an external threat. Also, for the purposes of this thought exercises, females are on the SSR as well.
I would come if called, but that's an easy answer for me as I am well beyond the age to be called. If they're calling up folks my age the **** has really hit the fan, so yes.

What? What are you gonna do sterilize women to fight a war or have pregnant women in different stages being put down in some terrain area that is not suitable for a rat. Come on we have come a long way, but back then no one in their right mind would have taken that leap. And really, women in combat, that is still a highly controversal issue, even if you are GI Jane.

Who said anything about putting a pregnant woman in combat and/or sterilizing them? Women serve everyday in the military right now without being sterilized. If they happen to become pregnant they're moved to a "safer" position. If mommy and daddy are both military they'll often discharge one of them.

But seriously, that's an extreme post.

What is wrong with not wanting to face combat? I, personally, would not want those people fighting next to me anyway. They could get scared at the wrong time and put my life in greater jeopardy. Besides, not everybody is a fighter.

You can, but I wouldn't recommend it.
When a person was convicted in a court martial he would be held in the orderly room to await shipment to the stockade.

It was my job as battery clerk to guard them in the orderly room so I was issued a 45 with ammo.

T here was a legend at the time that if you shot and killed a prisoner who was escaping that you would immediately be sent back to the states. It was tempting. Nobody ever tried to escape.

Lucky you. I had an M9 Beretta in my last months enlisted, only got rounds for it when I had to shoot it at the range. I hated that godamned thing.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.

One of the biggest mistakes the army has made, dropping the 45 for the M9. A much inferior weapon by far

For the purpose you proposed in the OP, definitely NOT. There is no direct threat to the United States, therefore I don't believe we should be involved at all. I'm definitely not fighting or dying for some other group of people.

I'm willing to die for Israel.
