    Do Democrats hate wealth?

I heard a Democrat challenger of the Dem ocratic incumbent for this area (state offtce) whose radio ad for the Democratic primary boasted that he "isn't rich. Isn't it time we elect a REAL Democrat?"The near total campaign theme of Obama and national democrats is that wealthy people are evil. It is the campaign against Romney. It is overall the constrant drum beating otherwise that the wealthy are evil and the Democrats are ongoing to punish them. Do Democrats hate the wealthy?

of course not. Nancy Pelosi has used her position to make herself fabulously wealthy. Ditto Harry Reid, Joe Biden, and all the rest. They don't hate the wealthy - they are the wealthy (though of course, they may not have accepted that).

But they think that people envy the wealthy and they are willing to manipulate that in order to achieve political success. Talking down about the visibly successful makes lots of people feel better about themselves (witness our celebrity coverage), and people feel more morally justified in taking from those whom they disparage.

Uh, no, democrats do not hate the wealthy, at least I don't. But it would be nice if you provided a link so we can put what you're talking about in context.

I don't think Dems hate the "Rich". For a longtime now, Reps have been perceived and labeled as the party of the rich, so Dem politicians have taken a page from the Military playbook and are practicing a strategy known as Dehumanizing the Enemy. They have enslaved people to benefit programs to keep them voting Dem and try to entice others into their net by offering up some benefit that people will get if the Dems get/stay in office. Of course, all of this needs to be paid for somehow and "everybody knows the rich don't pay enough taxes". Never mind the small fact that the top 10% of earners already pay over 50% of all income tax dollars taken in, they are still rich and can afford to pay more. The Dem politicians are no different than any other politician, they are only really concerned about maintaining their own power and wealth and will use any tactic/strategy that helps them stay/get into power.

Dem supporters come in varios stripes. From socialist who want wealth redistributed equally to all, to some who want to see more social programs to help the "poor" and to "rich" people who get guilt tripped into thinking they need to pay more to help the "poor".

It has nothing to do with like or dislike of wealth. The reasoning tends to more be a light application of utilitarianism tempered by what is practical and achievable (or considering what is best for everyone and not just a few) when considering the answer to problems inherent within our society than any personal feelings about people of various economic classes.

This whole thing about jealousy, hatred, etc is really just a talking point and nothing more. Its sad that people are fooled by it so easily.

The right does much the same when it makes appeals against "elitism." They're two sides of the same coin - populism.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

What is suprising is that people do not equate the two

The elites and the wealthy generally are one in the same.

Why are you so envious of and hate the rich?

Seriously, this is like asking if republicans hate the poor.

To me this whole thread is nothing more than dangerous generalizations...

The power of politicians is sustained by spending other people's money. When you are spending money from china that you are borrowing, you need to do something to distract people from your over-spending and mismanagement of public funds, so you set up a distraction.

Hating on the rich is one of many distractions.
