Not all of us base our identity around the amount of melanin in our skin, or what a bunch of dead people did hundreds of years before we even existed, or on a culture we didn't even grow up in.

You speak as if color is the ONLY thing that is a factor. That's a very narrow view of the issue.

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

I do NOT hate our founding father's. Here let me give you an example, if i bring you a wild man from the bush's of papua new guini, who run's around naked dancing around a fire, and never bath's, and then i bring him and introduce him to your refined, civilized, intelligent, and modern adult daughter, and they get together and create a child, you don't think something got dilliuted and destroyed?

No. It just adds to the culture of the family. It is not his fault that he lived in a tribal region; he did not choose where he was born. Does it not dilute the strength of humans if you keep the gene pool relatively shallow?

And how could you not hate the founding fathers? There are countless light skinned descendants of the founding fathers.

Well, what else is there? What do I share with my distant relatives other than color? I don't speak their language, I didn't grow up in their culture, and I'm a separate human being living in a totally different context.

I honestly think the whole idea of identifying yourself by something as meaningless as your most apparent lineage is ridiculous. What on earth does that have to do with you as a person?

Culture does have significance, which is exactly why it ought to be expanded.

Sounds like it might be fun to me, lol. Everyone needs to get in touch with the wild side every now and then. ;)

And no, it wouldn't dilute or destroy anything, but would likely add some new dimensional qualities to the newly created human.

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

But my culture is independent of my race. I grew up in a different culture than the culture of my racial origins. And that is true for the overwhelming majority of Americans.

And in that case, I would be identifying with a culture that CURRENTLY exists, and that I am PERSONALLY involved in. Not a by-gone culture that I have nothing to do with.

His bathing habits or other lack of things we consider part of civilized culture are independent of his race.

What if your modern daughter married Clarence Thomas? What would be destroyed there? (just set aside that he's already married -- to a white woman)

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

Come on, that is entirely hypocritical, it's the exact same argument that the anti-gay-marriage people make, everyone has the same rights for marriage, they can all get married to someone of the opposite sex.

No. With polygamy everyone *does* have the same rights. With same-sex marriage, they do not. With bans on same-sex marriage, your right to marry a woman is determined by whether you are male or female. That's discrimination. No such discrimination exists with bans on polygamous situations, unless you're talking about "discriminating" against already-married people versus unmarried people. And that's a decision that YOU made and which YOU can reverse, whereas your gender was something that you were born with (in most cases).

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

On top of that, you have just argued against polyamorous marriage in an extremely hypocritical way that's exactly the same garbage people use to deny SSM, and you don't even realize you've done it.

The government can and does discriminate against people for their actions (such as marriage); if you've ever claimed a tax deduction for anything, you're an accessory to this. If you support laws incarcerating criminals but not non-criminals, you support this kind of discrimination too. But discriminating against someone because of their race or gender is discriminating against someone for what they ARE, not what they DID.

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

To me, one of the only differences between the same sex marriage and interracial marriage debates, is that the latter has already been resolved.

Exactly. Anti-gay people will sputter and whine about the comparison, but they're never able to draw a distinction between same-sex marriage and interracial marriage. What it really boils down to is that it's still socially acceptable (in some parts of the country) to openly support discrimination against gays, whereas there aren't many places where it's still socially acceptable to openly support racial discrimination.

Sorry, not so. Equality in marriage is being able to marry who you want. If that happens to be 11 people, so what?

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

Discrimination isn't inherently wrong, I'm sure you are trying to link banning interracial marriage with SSM as if they are equivalent. The two are not equal, and discriminating based on someone's race is not the same as discrimination based on sexual orientation or defined gender roles. I'm sure you are trying to indirectly say that those who don't support SSM are akin to those that would ban interracial marriage. We also ban polygamous marriage relationships. We discriminate against a person who thinks that he/she can have more than one wife/husband. Is that bigotry?

What? They are equivalent. You can't change your sexual orientation, just like you can't change your race. It's bigotry, plain and simple. It's not a necessity to be a polygamist, you have a choice when it comes to that, you don't when it comes to race/sexual orientation.

I personally don't think cultures have value in and of themselves beyond the value that the life and welfare of the individuals within it. US culture is better in my view than middle east culture because it creates a better quality of life, longer life, less violent life, happier life (I assume), and a more rich life. Personally, I never understood the point of historical societies or preserving old cultures beyond any scientific info that could be gleaned, such as sociological info, farming techniques (or other skillsets), or anything that can be used to enhance other cultures. Intentionally doing something in some nonoptimal way because "its my culture" is replacing intelligence with emotion.

I probably do not have a typical opinion though.

Pure nonsense....Interacial couples proliferate life...interacial couples are a man and a woman....Khandahar...Sex was created via God or Evolution no matter what you believe for A purpose and the main reason was not sex...it was to sustain life...pleasure was included to make MEN AND WOMEN want to proliferate life.
All the footstomping and in your face obnoxiousness and all the labeling and insulting and name calling and attempts to intimidate heterosexuals does NOT change that.
You can stand on your head and twirl and try to compare yourselves to the Jews being murdered by the millions by nazi..you can compare yourselves to the enslavement of whole race of people...and no one believes it. No one has taken ANYTHING from homosexuals...this is all about Homosexuals DEMANDING something that many people do not believe is right and do not believe your rights are being violated as human beings because they are against two men and two women being married. No one can have everything they want and force society to give it to them just because they want it.
Personally If you want to hate me for my position go for it....the way I see the real hateful people are the homosexuals that hate others because they dont treat them as special...your not special...I see more hateful rhetoric coming from HOMOSEXUALS directed at anyone that doesnt kiss thier ass and cheerlead for them then I ever do from heterosexuals..Most of the hate comes from homosexuals.
I dont hate anyone...but if an individual keeps telling me I do and trying to bogart me I can start disliking that person real quick...

What group do you think is being discriminated against here? Married people? The decision to get married was YOUR choice, and is therefore not discrimination, as anyone who has taken a cursory look at our tax code and/or and/or our criminal justice system can attest:

"They're locking that murderer away for decades, but not that innocent man. Discrimination!"
"They're giving federal student loans to a college student, but not to the guy who isn't attending college. Discrimination!"
"They're giving that home mortgage tax deduction to a guy with a home mortgage, but not to the guy who rents. Discrimination!"

Legal marriage has nothing to do with "proliferating life." You get all the same benefits of marriage whether you have kids or not, and you get all the same benefits of having kids whether you're married or not.

You can stand on your head and twirl and try to compare yourselves to the Jews being murdered by the millions by nazi..you can compare yourselves to the enslavement of whole race of people...and no one believes it. No one has taken ANYTHING from blacks...this is all about blacks DEMANDING something that many people do not believe is right and do not believe your rights are being violated as human beings because they are against a black man and a white woman being married. No one can have everything they want and force society to give it to them just because they want it.

Fixed your post for you.

How do they want to be treated as special? They just want the same rights as everyone else, at zero cost to anyone else.

If the minority gay community wants the majority of the population to consider their right to marry as a civil rights issue, they'd serve themselves much better by approaching it in the same way MLK approached the black issue in the United States. Their Gay Rights Parades are a far cry from the marches for civil rights.

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

What do you think? Is there any plausible reason to favor this discriminatory marriage policy, other than bigotry/racism?

Just plain douchebaggery.

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

No, it's a valid comparison.

I disagree, Interacial marriages introduce further genetic diversity and the increased possiblity of evolutionary combinations/mutations that may improve man-kind. Homosexual marriage or even acts cannot introduce anything. Interacial marriages can contribute to genetic the future, Homosexual marriages cannot, they only apply to the desires and wants of the current generation of participants.

1) Marriage isn't necessarily about reproduction - by that logic infertile couples and couples who do not wish to have children shouldn't have the right to marry.

2) Gays can have children and still contribute to the gene pool of the future through artificial insemination, in vitro, and/or surrogacy.

3) And, either way, even if homosexuals aren't contributing to the gene pool of the future, then what harm does it do to give them marriage equality?

Bottom line is, this isn't an argument about genes or reproduction. It's an argument about rights, equality, discrimination, and justice.

What group do you think is being discriminated against here?

Anyone who wants to be married to more than one person at a time, of course. You're the one who is claiming that polygamists don't deserve to be married to as many people as they want to be. I'm just pointing out that this is the exact same argument made by anti-gay crusaders (they can marry anyone of the opposite sex) or potentially by anti-interracial advocates (they can marry anyone of the same race). If you want equality of rights, why does it stop at how many consenting adults want to marry?

Re: If a man wants to ban interracial marriage, does that make him a bigot or a racis

Nice attempt at a straw man to link interracial marriage with SSM.

The two are completely different.
