No, I'm not under any illusions that I have the power to influence the Republican Party in any way into nominating a candidate. I'm being strictly analytical here. For me Romney comes across as very sleazy and fake while Santorum, while I don't like his politics, seems more like he's what you see is what you get. I thought that maybe if the right also sees him that way that he would appeal to the base better than Romney. I also think his sense of humor works better than Romney's.

Of the other candidates I think Ron Paul comes across as more principled, but too much of the country sees his policies as extreme. At one point I felt a lot of respect for Newt Gingrich. It was back when he worked with President Clinton to balance the budget. I felt he had enough integrity to put the interests of the country ahead of politics, at least for a little while. However, in the campaign, he came across as extreme, and then his financial bungling made him seem incompetent.

If they dump Romney at this point, they will pick someone who didn't lose to Romney in the primaries like Christie or Portman.

Actually, you're not altogether correct there. Somebody picked Romney but it wasn't the people.

A better question is should Democrats nominate Hillary instead of Obama?

No, they should drop Obama and Hillary and go with Brad Henery, former Governor of Oklahoma.

No. They should dump Romney and nominate Ron Paul at the convention.

Yeah select someone with even less support than Santorum or Gingrich.

Gingrich tried to be the next notRomney, it only worked in a few states.

Santorum tried to be the next notRomney. He had more success than Gingrich, but could not win nearly enough delegates.

Ron Paul was never given serious consideration to be the next notRomney.

There would have to be a bizarre turn of events for the delegates to give the nomination to someone other than Romney. If they dump Romney, the nomination will go to someone that Romney didn't beat in the primaries. It would go to someone like Christie or Portman.

Paul-ites make me giggle. "The 10% of us will elect him! We can get this done! He's a hypocrite but we will elect him because he says he is a Libertarian!"

I will give them credit for one thing, though. They are better than anyone else at convincing themselves that pollution of the internet means that the rest of the country gives a damn. At the very least, our email inboxes and our Facebook accounts will receive hourly Ron Paul spam.
