Is the president's religious views and preferences important to you?

That may be, but I feel that Scientology is the most egregious of the lot. If you're a Scientologist, you either know the whole thing is a scam or you are retarded. Either way, not someone I want in office.

One of the few that understands that religious/personal beliefs actually mean something.

It matters what "god" you personally believe in? It matters how you practice your religion? How and why does that matter on the basis of presidency?

not important at all, unless their views are freaky, and then it can be very important

I voted for #4.

well - is it?
It's never mattered to me, but that's because I've never had to choose among candidates with religious views that make me uncomfortable. They've all pretty much been some variation of mainstream Christian. So, in the context of our political scene, no, religion does matter. However, if people in cults started becoming popular candidates, that would probably change.

I think it's - odd - that people assume that someone of any faith adheres to it with strictness.

My Dad raised us to be Pentecostal but he always supported abortion even though it was against the church's beliefs . . . My Mom supports SSM as do I. I'm not even remotely religious - never believed like my sisters or parents do but some of my values in life are more rigid than my family's religiously-influenced beliefs. My Jewish brother-in-law isn't kosher. . . and so forth.

Religion doesn't mold people as much as people think it does. I think it's underhanded to claim it does.

Just like I would like to know his/her religion, I would also like to how well they actually adhere to their religion because Religion helps determine if they actually have morals and how well they follow their religions believes speak to whether or not they stand by their beliefs and morals.

Perhaps the only religion I would never vote for would be atheism, but that is only because so many of them who claim to be aitheist are so hell bent on destroying other religions. Some Muslims are that way, but I cannot say all of them.

I could never vote for a catholic that supports abortion
or a Baptist that drinks
or a muslim or jew who eats pork. I think you can see where I am going with that. Going against one's religion instills, at least in me, a bit of mistrust and I would consider them to be hypocrites. Personally, I consider myself Christian, however, I adhere to no specific religion as some of my beliefs are way outside their teachings.

Amusing . . . do you think I'm immoral? I am an atheist. . . so naturally I'm fraught with depravity and perversion - of course!
Of course: I eat my young and have sex with my neighbor's dogs. LOL

That reminds me of a comment my sister made when I was 16 . . . I had a crush on a guy - my sister asked me about his religious-views - and I told her he was an atheist but I wasn't sure. She said 'he couldn't be an atheist because he doesn't have sex with his mother. . . '

:rofl

She was 17 - Valedictorian at our high school when she argued that with me.

:rofl

And my childhood was surrounded by religiously-faithful perverts who molested me in the basement of our church.

Yeah - so obviously I don't take 'religion = morality' argument seriously AT ALL. But I do firmly believe that *most* religious people are decent people - not child molesters - and that *everyone* has a Constitutionally protected RIGHT to follow their own faith - or lack of - however they see fit so long as it doesn't rob others of their rights.

I did include how well they follow that religion. And I also believe that atheism is a religion. Other than a few nuts who claim to be muslim, Morman or to be the savior of mankind, I know of no religion that actually believes in child molestation.

As to eating your young, well, whatever, as long as you didn't murder them to eat them. As to having sex with the neighbors dog, what ever floats your boat. Seems to me that if it is not my dog, then it is non of my business. If it is my dog, please have him back in the yard before dark, he is part of my home defence plan.
