Is the so called "news" in this country more worried about ratings and views rather than truthfulness, being objective, and the actual stories?

There was a time when the news divisions were separate from the entertainment divisions... today they report to the entertainment divisions and must profitable.

I believe they and the companies that own them are more worried about spreading propaganda. Everything from picking presidents to ensure the two party duopoly to shaping public opinion on social issues.

Yes. It's generally a walking op-ed with explosive graphics, sound effects, and transitions. I'm not romanticizing the old network formats, but in my opinion, the more boring you make the broadcast, the better it is.

they're disgusting. The problem is in the ownership monopoly. Every single one of them is owned by the big evil corporations. The last thing they care about is honest reporting. They have one purpose. To control and/or influence how and what you think.

It's all about ratings. It's all in the first segment, where they tell you of some mystery item you need to know about, but you have to stay tuned in to find out, and the hot lady co-anchor that everyone wants to sleep with. Usually a light skinned black lady, or a latina that appeals to the minorities while being light skinned enough to be sexually attractive and non-offensive to upper middle class whites. Everything gets sensationalized to the fullest extent by reporting on the new thing that's going to kill us all in the most horrible and gruesome manner. Then they show you how the cops will beat your ass for being a "criminal", followed by Steve with the sports, and the weather forecast, topped off with a feel good local story about a person from the ghetto "making it" after being graciously helped by the benevolent forces of the news station.
It's the reason why I stopped watching tv four or five years ago, but getting an occasional glimpse of the ole telescreen is inevitable. Same sensationalized crap as it ever was, while providing no real information.

Absolutely. There are so many competing news sources that it's become much more about doing whatever attracts money than actually reporting the news.
