Prove US citizenship before buying a gun?

Here's one reason that might justify a background check. It's pretty disgusting that an al Quaida terrorist or the member of a Mexican drug cartel might come to the United States to buy guns. They're foreigners and therefore have no 2nd Amendment rights. Plus, many of them are in the country illegally. The 2nd Amendment affords citizens the right to bear arms, not foreigners who have invaded for nefarious purposes. So should we make sure to check for citizenship before allowing the sale of a gun? And include that check at gun shows?

I'm not sure gun-control supporters can even take your issue seriously. They want drama, so they want things to get out of control.

Are you asking this question so you can get teased?

No, I get picked on enough. My obnoxious poll is on another board.

The instant background check already does this.

    (proof)
I'm a former firearm sales person at the retail level and actually had a foreign person attempt to purchase a firearm, which was summarily denied.

prior to 9-11 as long as you had legal residence in a state you could buy a gun-green card or a visa. I sold a gun to a Turkish Colonel stationed at WPAFB who was here as a NATO assigned officer. He had a valid Ohio DL, and orders signed by the General of the USAF authorizing him to carry weapons on the base.

He was as legal as they come

    Private sales require ID.
There are rules to even those and are not completely unregulated, as is commonly believed.

wrong-licensed dealers must conduct background checks no matter where they operate

private citizens NO (based on law)--some gun shows require private sellers to transfer their sales through a dealer though

    that is not federally required

the common practice at the shows I go to is to require a CCW permit-then you are safe. One of the big promoters in the Ohio valley-Bill Goodman's shows, now require background checks by everyone

of course he cannot do much about sales in the parking lots

Really? The press has made it sound very wild west like, as if a turbin-wearing lunatic with a heavy accent can walk into a gun show, cash in hand, and walk out with dozens of AR-15s.
