Should a person have to prove US citizenship to be able to buy a gun?

I have never once had to go through a background check at a gun show... I have no idea what Turtledude is talking about. I think he is trying to make it look like they are already regulated when in reality it is completely lacking any regulation whatsoever.

you must have not ever bought a gun from a licensed dealer.

you are not being honest when you claim there is no regulation. the laws there are no different than any other place in whatever state you live in

wrong-licensed dealers must conduct background checks no matter where they operate

private citizens NO (based on law)--some gun shows require private sellers to transfer their sales through a dealer though

that is not federally required
I used to work for a private security outfit in CA in the late 90s and I always scored shifts at the gun shows. It's my experience that the majority of gun sellers at gun shows are the big name licensed dealers.

There is only 17 states that regulate private gun sales between two parties. If you are at a gun show and you have a large collection of guns and you want to sell some, the only stipulation is that they do not sell to persons they have reason to believe are felons or otherwise prohibited from purchasing firearms. If you consider that regulation then ok, I will concede. I however, do not consider that regulation because I being a non-threatening looking man can walk into any gun show in the majority of the US and purchase a firearm from a private seller without a background check. Simple as that.

true-that is the case here in ohio

You are not being truthful If you engage in activity that constitutes "dealing in firearms" you can be arrested by the ATF.

Example, If I am a dealer and you (a private citizen) sells me a gun I can sell it to someone else immediately after I log it in

If I have a few of my own guns on the table and you and I trade, or I buy one from you and I try to sell it before 24 hours has elapsed, I have violated the laws.

and you can buy a gun without a background check in any place in your state from another individual without a background check

there is no difference in the law

what you people should argue is that "gun shows" facilitate lots of private dealers to be available to people who want to buy from private dealers rather than lying that there is a loophole.

and some shows now require private sellers to go through a dealer which is not a state law in Ohio

No. How will romney get a gun then?

DO you believe you have not reached your quota of completely inane posts that are based on idiotic lies?

We scarcely make people prove US citizenship before VOTING, and efforts in that direction get shot down as "racist", so why bother starting now...

um..that's because there is a LONG history in the USA of all sorts of fees & requirements in order to vote, that were purely motivated by racism and the desire to keep black people from voting.

imposed by the same party that wants to hassle those trying to exercise their second amendment rights

Like showing photo ID?

I'm still trying to figure out how photo ID became "racist"...

apparently there are allegations that some races are not competent enough to get an ID in sufficient quantities

its that racist attitude of the left that some groups aren't smart enough to cope

I support having to show an ID to vote, to prove who you are.

add that with a federal law requiring everyone to have a state govt. issued ID, and our problem is solved.
