So you won't give up your tax cuts to save the defense budget but you will give them up if everyones taxes go up. Interesting. You do see that no matter what your taxes are going up and they will go up MORE if all the cuts are eliminated. That has got to be a first for you...wanting to pay more taxes. Kudos for that.
The Govt. has been spending 20% of GDP for the last 20 years and revenues are at 15% of GDP now. Does that make it more clear why the Bush tax cuts are temporary?

I will try to explain it to you so you can understand

what drives the deficit? it is too much spending

why do politicians spend too much

because the voters reward them with votes

How do we change that behavior?

taxing the rich more will not

indeed-taxing the rich more will allow big spending politicians to tell their constituents that the politicians NOW have the ability to spend even more to buy the votes of their faithful since the government NOW has more money to spend on the voters

saying the rich should pay EVEN MORE while everyone else retains their tax cuts is a message to the masses that they don't have a duty to help with the deficit-after all that will be handled by taxing the rich more

what drives the deficit?

Spending too much and taxing the rich too little, which has been GOP policy for the last 30 years. The only significant reduction in the deficit in the last 30 years was in the 90's when we both cut spending, mainly on the military, and increased tax rates for the wealthy.

you were half right

the tax rates for the middle class "cost" more than the cuts for the "rich"

and the middle class drives the spending

The Democrats in their tax proposal that just passed in the Senate included $2.50 in spending cuts for every $1 of revenue increase.

(snipped the rest because I don't deal in hysterical horror scenarios)

The Republicans are smart not to accept that kind of deal from the Democrats given their past history of not following through with promised spending cuts. Now...if the Democrats were to make the cuts FIRST, then we could talk about raising taxes.

Not surprising since they have bigger benefits for the economy and more of our citizens.

and the middle class drives the spending

That's just a far right talking point which no one but the far right swallows. Look at how we cut our deficit in the 90's without defunding entitlements that support the middle class.

the rich benefit the economy more

the bottom 60% are net tax consumers.

the rich pay for the government that people like you use

Nothing shouts one is a failure more than whining about those who are successful

Fine, if the GOP refuse $2.50 in spending cuts for every $1 increase in revenues, we go to sequestration then and we actually get the spending cuts in military spending that we so desperately need. Works for me!

the GOP knows that the dems buy votes by telling the masses that they can have everything they want if they vote the dems in and the dems will make OTHERS pay for it

that only causes more deficits

if your tax cuts are so good for you, you are a hypocritical greedy liar if you claim those same tax cuts (er rates) are bad for someone making 230K a year

That works for me, as well...because military spending won't be the only thing that gets cut. Entitlement spending gets hit as well. But if the Democrat plan is accepted, we end up with more taxes and NO spending cuts. Is that what you prefer?

catawba's main goal is to see more income redistribution.

the rich benefit the economy more

How have the last decade of tax cuts for the rich helped the economy???

Do we have more jobs, is the economy prospering, is there less wealth inequality between the classes? Or, did the rich just get richer?

Make your argument to seniors why they should suffer more for an even bigger tax cut for the wealthy as the GOP proposes.

Yes, and with no concern for deficit spending. Sounds like he has a good plan to sink the country.

there is no evidence that the Bush tax-cuts for the wealthy created any more jobs.

the dem schemes of making more and more people competitive on the government has really screwed the pooch. That is why the middle class is failing to prosper much like addicts stoned out of their gourds

you lefties have made failure comfortable and then you wonder why so many fail

its not my fault you fail to advance yourself. You have proven-over the last three years in your posts, that you blame others and will continue to blame others for your lack of success and that failure to take responsibility for your lot in life is what holds you back

not me

Not Romney

nor that tax hikes will create more jobs either but what tax hikes will do is give the government more money to waste

Not being discretionary spending, SS and Medicare are exempt from the sequestration cuts.

BTW, The Democrats are the party that has proposed cutting spending on the military, the GOP has pledged to increase spending on the military.

Exactly, and voters are acutely aware of this, its why they no longer swallow the trickle down BS being regurgitated by present day GOP.

you mean like reducing the deficit?

that's a waste of money to you?

there is no proof that raising taxes on the rich can reduce the deficit or will be used for that

your party has to keep spending to buy the votes of its constituents. Cutting spending castrates the power of the dems to win elections

..BTW, The Democrats are the party that has proposed cutting spending on the military, the GOP has pledged to increase spending on the military.

yeah, so we can take on the Soviet Union. Or Al Qaeda's massive army.

um..who exactly do we need to confront with a larger military?

The middle class drives the CONSUMER spending that makes up 75% of our economy. The money saved by the middle class cuts are spent in the economy, unlike your cuts which just add to the 80% of your income that you sock away each year. It's unsustainable to allow that 5% of the population to keep building that $40 trillion nest egg while the economy languishes from weak demand. Spend it or lose it, you choose.

I'm sure insulting the middle class will get the far right exactly where they need to be, so carry on my friend.

I am merely pointing out the truth about those indolent middle class members who think their failure to make it is due to others

See the 1990's, the only time in the last 30 years when we significantly reduced the deficit.
