I'm not a top 1 % member, but now I'm looking out over my back yard with it's fountain and view of the creek, with my fishing boat and dock, and my neighbors across the water. We bought 2 other homes, cash, recently as they were on sale. The government abused me in '68 by drafting me, but I didn't give up. (Talk about a stupid war!) I advised others not to give up many times. Now, a short distance from me, overlooking the same river I'm looking at now is the HQ of a large corporation. One of its founders also has a 'house' on this river about a mile from HQ's. My understanding, from reporters research several years ago, is that the founders sold the rights to its logos to themselves and one other Cayman Islander cheap. Now they are renting it back at high prices. Is this the top 1 percent that you want everyone to become? How close are you TurtleDude?

My wife just told me that her theory on people that take the viewpoint of TurtleDude are thinking that they want to be set up for winning the lottery so they won't have to pay so much in taxes. Is she correct?

your wife has no clue apparently

    try a new argument.

Those who want the rich to pay more and more generally have conceded they will never be successful and they don't want others to make it either

It's a typo. We have to cut spending and raise taxes both. I pay taxes and I have no problem seeing my rate upped a little. I won't even notice it.

Show me the cuts...THEN we can talk about taxes.
Key word, promise. I saw make it law. not promise, but specific cuts mandated by law.

There's a book on it somewhere, but it only had me thinking of it and not what convinced me. Things liek this did:

And so, when a Democratic president, who cares about discretionary spending, and who knows it's not a significant source of red ink, offers a massive $1 trillion cut to that spending, that is a real compromise. When President Obama also offers $650 billion in entitlement cuts over 10 years -- cuts that would hurt his party's constituents and anger his strongest supporters, that is a real compromise. When the White House offers hundreds of billions less in new revenue than any of the three (rather center-right) bipartisan budget proposals on the table -- indeed, offers almost $4 in spending cuts for every $1 in new revenue -- that is a real compromise.

Washington Isn't Broken, the Republican Party Is - Brian Goldsmith - The Atlantic

It's not the first time real compromised came before them, but they simply didn't act.

What has the GOP put in writing they would do to cut health care costs for citizens?

So where is your specific program to

1- balance the current federal budget without putting the nation into a depression by slamming on the brakes too hard and too fast
2- paying off the massive $15 trillion deficit

    ??????????????

And stow the nonsense about the damn Constitution since you have no power to change those decisions. Tell us what is practical in todays world - not pre 1933 Fantasy Land.

I and other dems here have said we want to raise taxes on all folks. So why do you keep lying about this? I know - silly question.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers
