Open carry vs Concealed Carry

Should people Open Carry, Conceal Carry, or no carry

I've said it before...

I have no problem with legal open carry. It isn't legal in my state, but if it was I'd probably stick with concealed for a variety of reasons.

Mainly tactical; I prefer not to tip my hand. I'd rather the BGs first clue I was armed came too late, as in "after I've already shot them."

As a side issue, socially, some people are made nervous by the open presence of a firearm. I don't really understand that myself, but I try to be courteous.

not that I cared enough to look at other states besides my own and any I might visit for extended periods but I wasnt even aware that there were states out there that you couldnt open carry??? thats BS.

I didnt answer the poll because i dont know what its asking? lol

anyway

I have a CWP, concealed weapons permit and I have carried concealed.

I have now carried open but rarely and only a couple time on my way to the gun club.

If its a question about what should be allowed both open and concealed should be allowed and Im fine with checks/permits for concealed if they are fast.

Hello from Maryland :2wave:

I voted concealed. I don't personally have a problem with open carry, I just think there is too much anti-gun bias for someone to walk around with a desert eagle strapped to their belt. Also if you have a weapon openly visible and someone intends to do violence, you are pretty much target #1, you lose the element of surprise.

really? that sucks.

I havent been on the websites in a while to look at who honors my permits and what are the laws in a while Im going to have to peak tonight, hell I drove into Maryland with my gun concealed, its not that I thought it was legal, (it might be) but I had a family emergency and my mind wasnt thinking.

That is much my train of thought also. But how do you conceal a DE during the summer?

You have no idea, we don't get any of the cool guns that don't have an internal safety mechanism, no magazines > 10 rounds, must have a fixed stock if 16" barrel (no adjustable), no foregrips, no CCW unless you're (ex)LEO but that may be changing August 7th, and in my county ammuntion costs twice as much. Paying > $12 for 100 rounds of CCI Mini mag 22LR is an outrage, in Baltimore I paid $6.

Heck if you look @ Smith and Wesson's catalog, they make different (read: crappier) AR-15's so that they're legal in MD. I had to drive to PA to get my 25 round mags for my 10/22.

Maryland SUCKS for gun owners, but there is some hope.

I haven't carried unless it's open and on duty. that being said, i will get a CCW license upon return to the land of the big wal-mart,and likely a nice little glock to carry that way.

May I suggest the generation 3 Glock 19 varietal. It provides an aromatic fragrance and nice bouquet, especially when cleaned with Hoppes No. 9, and tends to be austere in nature until a few hundred rounds pass through it. The grip provides a hint of texture and traction that embraces your grasp, and provides balance. At times it provides a smoky aroma, especially after firing. It is also elegantly refined with no rough edges or imperfections. Although some describe its appearance as vanilla, others find it to be silky in nature, the epitome of the most elegant, fine and refined simi-auto carry pistols on the market.

I suppose it depends on how you dress. I am a hot natured person and usually wear khakis/jeans and a polo shirt so I couldn't pull it off, even my Glock 22 is a bit bulky.

South Carolina. There are many states where open carry isn't legal.

Now if you're walking down the road wearing hunter's camo and carrying a shotgun or deer rifle along the treeline, nobody is going to bother you. You can carry loaded guns in your car without any permits and it is legal. But if you want to carry on your person it is concealed and CCW.

We're working on it.

Don't like the Gen 4's I take it?

Desert Eagle is a conversation piece, not a carry gun.

Summertime I stick a compact Kahr .40 in my pocket, with a leather ISP holster to keep it in place. Works with jean shorts too, or Cabelas. Bit of a bulge but not enough that most people notice.

Ever test out a Kel-Tec PF9? IMO there isn't a better carry pistol.

I've been thinking about getting one of those to use for summertime carry. I shot one belonging to a buddy of mine and liked it quite a lot. It is a feather compared to my Kahr, and I'm okay with 9mm+p for defense.

DE is also great as an "interview gun" if you have a daughter, but self defense not so much. Fun as hell to shoot, but too bulky, takes a little too long to draw when literally milliseconds count, and if you miss then anticipating the next shot is kind of tough with your elbows at chin level.

It really is, the person who declares what they have is probably not going to commit a crime, logically it would follow that you can't ambush.

No, I prefer the gen 3 Glocks. I don't like the new grip texture on the gen 4s. What I do like about them though is the new recoil system like on the Glock 36 and interchangeable backstraps. The recoil system reduces recoil for the .40 caliber round but the 9mm has minimal recoil anyway. That's what I shoot. The big thing for me is the feel of the grip.

Cold enough out for a jacket - concealed. Warm enough out for no jacket - open. I'm a firm believer in having it and not needing it over needing it and not having it.

The only time I do not carry is at work though. Not welcome and will definitely get you fired. I will not leave it in my car, however, because I have had a car stolen from the company parking lot and would not want that haunting me. See I can give a little.

South Carolina.

God's country. I went to HS and college in SC. It has everything for the outdoor lover from beaches, forests, and multiple large lakes that provide great hunting, fishing, and boating opportunities.

I started carrying a Kahr P380 with my summer attire, shorts and T-shirts. I chose this platform for summer carry because its about the smallest centerfire pocket pistol on the market and it doesn't have to penetrate multiple layers of clothing. Some think the .380 round isn't adequate but with the current bullet technology used now I don't know anyone who would want to be shot with it. In winter its usually a Glock 19, 9mm. Occasionally, I'll carry a 1911 in .45 acp.

All legally concealed.

I love my SC, flaws notwithstanding.

What ammo do you use for a defense load in the .380? I'm curious...

I like the COR BON or the Remington Golden Sabers (they feed best in the sig P238 I carry as a deep backup)

I like concealed carry better. Open carry makes people feel uncomfortable, like if I was on a date with a guy who I hoped would get up the guts to kiss me, I wouldn't open carry and make him feel like he might get shot if he tries.

It depends totally on the environment and the circumstances. If i am on a isolated stream fishing by myself it makes sense to have a weapon open and obvious. First it stays out of the river in a shoulder holster. secondly its not going to alarm people out in the middle of no where

walking around downtown cincinnati in a suit a Roy Rogers fast draw rig is going to look stupid and scare the crap out of the average person

yeah thats horrible and why somethings should not be left up to the states but I have always felt that way.
Well I hope things get better in there
