What does it mean for something to be a "right" if all actions are rights and being a right doesn't mean that people can't stop you from doing it?
We're beginning to go way off the beaten path focusing more on rights then the topic of this thread so I'll just sum up my thought shortly. In essence, yes. And really, I should remove "be around whoever I want". Essentially, in nature, one has the right to anything they can do on entirely on their own. Yes, this covers a lot of actoins. However, our founders intelligently explained it using three ideas that serve as wonderful Umbrella's. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Life --> Living itself, eating, self defense, etc all can fall under this
Liberty --> Literally being free (IE not confined), the ability to say what you want, the ability to believe what you want, etc can all fall under this
Pursuit of happiness --> Protecting/claiming an area of land that you like, seeking items that help you to live, etc could fall here

Is that a ton of things? Absolutely. Does the fact that those are "rights" mean people can't stop you from doing them? Absolutely not. Your rights, in nature, are not "protected" beyond what you yourself are able to do to protect them. Right's, in a natural sense, are simply those things all men are free to do and can never fully be taken from them short of death.

everyone who buys a gun should go through a background check, to make sure they aren't a convicted felon.

    its common-sense.

Yeah, there can be a few minute check to make sure you're not on probation and whatnot.

What? Using what system? First of all, you must POSITIVELY identify the person that you are checking, that alone is not easy, as we see with voter ID law complaints, that claim up to 10% have no valid, state issued, photo ID.

OK, try to access that system and run a check on yourself.

a process should be set up so that individual gun-owners can sell their guns and access the system at a police station or gunshop.

why should I be hassled if I am giving a gun to my wife or my kid? or selling it to a friend I know isn't a mope.

And why are criminals going to do this?

I have a great idea: lets make all transfers of CRACK, COCAINE and CRYSTAL METH be required to be conducted by a LICENSED PHARMACIST and only people holding VALID PRESCRIPTIONS CAN BUY THE STUFF
