What is the top reason for the current US economic problem?

It's probably a a combination of factors, but what would you say is the primary reason for the US economic problems?

A personallly I attribute the greater weight of our situation on cheap overseas labor competing with relative high income American incomes needed due to our higher cost of living that has reached a peak in 2012. You can't buy a nice home in America for $20,000. You can in Mumbai.

Power distribution or rather power distortion.

Too many Americans (the 'masses' and the politicians) are addicted to debt.

Very interesting. Often debt is presented as a solution to economic difficulties.

Re: What is the top reason for the current US economic problem?

I didn't actually vote in this poll as there is not option for "other".

The answer is simple and can be summed up in one word; GREED.

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed:

Greed is the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods, or objects of abstract value with the intention to keep it for one's self, far beyond the dictates of basic survival and comfort. It is applied to a markedly high desire for and pursuit of wealth, status, and power.

As a secular psychological concept, greed is, similarly, an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs. It is typically used to criticize those who seek excessive material wealth, although it may apply to the need to feel more excessively moral, social, or otherwise better than someone else.

Greed of workers wanting more and more for their labor.

Greed of busniness owners to have more and more profit

Greed of people who want to do nothing but have the government provided more and more

Greed of people who want more and more luxeries and thus overuse credit to obtain what they are unwilling to save to get

Greed of groups who wish to display their superiority over other groupings which causes friction and violence

Greed of people who want the government to hand out more and more entitlements

etc, etc, etc... Greed, Greed, Greed...

There's a lot of various reasons as to why our economy is where it is right now. Top problem? I think it's hard to say, if you wanted some aggregated "top" problem, the largest dynamic feeding into the system forcing it to where it is now is likely corporatism, the Corporate State.
You know the time is right to take control, we gotta take offense against the status quo

    Where's the "Other" poll option?

I say our problems stem from lack of discipline. Corporations, government, and yes even individuals... all lack discipline and keep over-extending themselves.

It's trendy and popular to blame government and corporations, but they're only 2/3 of the problem.
If you claim sexual harassment to be wrong, yet you defend anyone on your side for any reason,
then you are a hypocrite and everything you say on the matter is just babble.

Agreed. The number one part of the problem is households. Families aren't parenting their children to be responsible, and we're graduating generation after generation of adult children who are taught to manipulate rather than appreciate others.

Economy comes from society. Today's problem is lots of people just have a bad attitude who believe it's OK to live vicariously through others.

Political gridlock, a general conservative outlook from businesses, and too many people with no marketable skills or who are unwilling to market themselves where they would most be useful.

A large chunk of it is psychological. Companies aren't going to make the type of investments that spur growth when Europe is on the verge of collapse, politicians are threatening government default, major pieces of legislation effecting corporate budgets are up in the air, tax obligations are uncertain, etc. IMO, the best thing the government can do at the moment is not cut spending, not increase spending, but just sit down, shut up, smile, and shake hands.
