I understand fully what he did and when it happened. That shouldn't strip him of his on field success

Because, he led his team better than any other coach in the NCAA

His onfield success was created by his offield actions. His recruiting, his training, and so on. One thing he did as part of his role as coach of the team was facilitate a man's ability to rather disgustingly molest(and that is putting it so mildly, the report on his actions was incredibly painful and I had to stop reading it very early) young children.

But he put that team above the well being of children and allowed children to be molested in order to protect one of his team's coaching staff. I would say it's similar to honoring an athlete for excellent performance but then later finding out that they used steroids. It's not the same scenario or equivalent (I think what Paterno did is worse), but it's just an illustration for argument's sake.

Okay. His offield actions were awful and despicable. That is hardly a matter of opinion. He should not receive this much attention for turning a blind eye. I'm pretty sure the punishment for facilitation is much less than actually doing

I think most of us here think that there are things more important than football. Allowing some one to rape children is more important that football. The fact that he let this happen so that it would not affect the football team, that makes it just that much worse. Stop and think about that. He let a man rape little kids so he could keep winning football games.

He knowingly allowed Sandusky to be in a position where he could do what he did to those kids. Her permitted it by weighing his belief that it's best to ignore it instead of firing one of his staff and potentially harming the image of his team. He facilitated the molestation and directly allowed for it to happen by keeping Sandusky in that position.

Why have a statue for Sandusky put up NOW? The statue is existing and is for memorial of his onfield coaching career. I would never raise a new statue of him now
