Is paying your taxes Patriotic? [W:102]

I think this question needs to be asked based on the arguments made in my previous poll. Some people just didn't see the relevance to why patriotism would be associated with where one puts their money.

Romney has tax havens in foreign banks for the purpose of avoiding US taxes.

He has made his money and taken advantage of the prosperity that the US allows him, yet he sets up foreign bank accounts to avoid paying the taxes on the money he earned here.

So the question is: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

Remember, this is someone running for the highest (suppose to be) most respected position in the world.

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?
    - Abraham Lincoln

Before the war is ended, the war party assumes the divine right to denounce and silence all opposition to war as unpatriotic and cowardly.
    - Robert M. LaFollette, Wisconsin Governor and U.S. Senator

God, how patient are Thy poor! These corporations and masters of manipulation in finance heaping up great fortunes by a system of legalized extortion,
and then exacting from the contributors--to whom a little means so much--a double share to guard the treasure!

Paying your taxes makes you a loser.

How much of a loser you are depends on how many taxes you pay.

People who pressure others to pay taxes and take pride in humility are predators who need to be put in their place.

    Wow fast reply there dak.

I realize some people don't like the word patriotic and think it gets thrown around too much to have any relevance. To those people I am sorry, but I have no better word for it at the time.

Patriotism has to do with culture, not economics.

The phrase you want is socially responsible, but there's nothing socially responsible in giving money to people who forcefully take it like a bully taking your lunch money.

That's one thing that has always amazed me. You got all these "God Bless America", flag waving, lapel pin wearing "true patriots" over at FOX (and even here at DP) nonstop whining about the price it costs to live in the best nation on the planet. Wah, wah, wah.

Living in the USofA is worth it at twice the price. Love it or leave it.

Most conservatives today are militarist neocons who insist on industrialist, workaholic, rugged individualism.

I'm not one of them. I support organic conservatism where we recognize procedural justice and freedom of assembly. Nobody asks to be born in this country, so nobody deserves to be guilt tripped into affording social institutions.

Telling people to leave makes as much sense as blaming a hostage for being kidnapped.

Patriotism has nothing to do with it, therefore, who cares?
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

You'll pay anything they tell you to?

You could always go off the grid....of course you wouldn't have any benefits of a modern civilized society!

    Could doesn't mean ought.
