    Well then why won't he just release his tax information, I mean c'mon, every candidate for the last 30 years has done so yet Romney refuses. I dont mean to sound like a birther here but what the hell has he got to hide?

    Source for this assertion? Under Obama the VISIBLE cost of gov't was reduced, but it is the unfunded mandates that cause the most harm.

    There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

    Romney has tax havens in foreign banks for the purpose of avoiding US taxes.

    He has made his money and taken advantage of the prosperity that the US allows him, yet he sets up foreign bank accounts to avoid paying the taxes on the money he earned here.

    So the question is: Is paying your taxes Patriotic?

    Remember, this is someone running for the highest (suppose to be) most respected position in the world.
    I would say taxes are simply a quid pro quo. You either pay them, or you go to jail. Patriotism, imo, would be buying American made goods.

    Typical libertarian. Community is more than commerce. Community comes from social values.

    It's the belief that economics define patriotism which leads people to believe that paying taxes is patriotic in the first place. They forget how freedom of assembly is based on principles not performance.

    He released his 2010 return, his wife's return and their trust's return. He released their 2011 Estimate. (It is not unusual to file an extension...I think a normal extension takes the time period to October...) He also released 23 YEARS of returns to the McCain campaign when he was being vetted for V.P. candidacy. He obviously has nothing to hide or he wouldn't have released 23 years' worth nor even considered the vice-presidency (much less the presidency) if there were significant secrets to hide. I would think it's a matter of privacy.

    I do think he should release whatever's customary, though.

    Patriotism has nothing to do with taxes.

    taxes are merely compulsory contribution to state revenue coffers.
    patriotism is love of country.

    government =/= the country.

    First, you are using 'think progress' as a source. No bias there at all, eh?

    Second, I said if you consider all. That means more than just federal earnings taxes. Try digging beyond the partisan tripe.

    Can't tell if srs. I presented buying American goods over foreign goods as an example of patriotism, because it supports American industry, and keeps Americans employed. Paying taxes is no more patriotic than paying a ticket for a traffic violation. You either do it, or they issue a warrant, and throw you in jail.
