What should happen to those who renounce their US citizenship? This a multiple choice poll and users can see how you voted.

Kept out of the US permanently
Banned from doing business with American companies in the US
Banned from doing business with American companies abroad.
Kept out of the US until they pay back taxes.
Their property in the US confiscated and sold to pay back taxes.
The US government should go after them to pay taxes regardless of what country they go to.
Other idea(please specify)
They should be allowed to freely enter the US as long as they have a US passport.
No one should be punished for renouncing their citizenship.
I don't know.

Personally I feel that if someone renounces their American citizenship then they should never be allowed back into the US including it's territories, nor should they be allowed to do business with any American company.I don't care what someone's reasons are for renouncing their citizenship.

No one should be punished for renouncing their U.S. citizenship.

Make them stand in line with everyone else if they ever want to get their citizenship back. Aside from that, treat them like any other non-citizen.

They should not be allowed to enter the US. They should not be allowed to do business inside the US. Any remaining US assets should be seized.

Interesting coming from the man who wants to renounce his US Citizenship.

I was just going to say treat them like any other foreigner.

Why? ......

Remember that I'm an Isolationist and a Nationalist, Maggie. When I leave the US permanently and renounce my citizenship this fall (hopefully), I will not be leaving anything behind. No money. No property. Nothing. That's the way these people should be. If they don't like the US, leave it (as I'm working on doing); but don't try to stand on the fence.

Let us know how that works out for you.

If done for profit (tax evasion or similar), all of the above.

If done with full settlement, treat them like any other possibly hostile foreigner.

Americans who renounce their citizenship should be banned from working or living in the USA for 5 years.

Then lets get all the people living here, who are immigrants from other countries, and aren't citizens, to get the hell out.

Why would you bar a former US citizen, while allowing citizens of other countries. That makes no sense whatsoever.

I completely and totally support the right of any American to renounce their citizenship and move to any nation which will take them. The US Government should collect all that is owed to them by that person and the doors should be shut after they pass through.

Yes it does. The immigrant was NOT an American who decided to take a dump on the nation and its people.

Well, Tigger, at least you are honest..
And, I would imagine that I am on this "ignore list" and with good company and plenty of it....

And how, and/or where is this true , as fact, not opinion...??
It wasn't intended as fact or opinion, it was intended as comedy (the clue is in the little yellow guy having a seizure - we really need a better wink-smilie).

That said, there is usually a grain of truth behind jokes and here that's the commonly held negative opinion of anything non-American, as demonstrated by a number of the responses to this thread.

This reminds me of a stupid rule the Catholic Church has. 12 years ago, a couple of close friends asked me to be the godfather of their son. At this point, I was sort of a non-practicing Catholic. I tried to go. I really did, but then the homily centered on selling indulgences (and how it was still being done). Never went back except for 1 or two weddings and my grandparents funerals. I expect my next trip will be when my mother dies (my father isn't Catholic, or anything in particular...)

Anyway, I told my friend this and he told me that he knew of kids whose godparents weren't Catholic, and it was OK as long as they were members of a Christian Church. So I joined my wife's church (United Church of Christ). They still didn't consider me "godfather material" because I was an ex-Catholic. Which apparently is worse than being a hellbound heathen for your whole life . It led to my friends and I lying to the priest in the church and telling him I was Catholic. He wouldn't let me sign the Baptismal Certificate, so in the eyes of Rome, my godson has no godfather.

You can't really do anything, but I would like to kick them out of the US forever. Those lazy bastards just want to run away instead of staying and trying to fix the problems, rather let the Republic fall into ruin instead of trying to save it, let them run I say. Don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out. Don't think of coming back. Property is confiscated by the government, all bank accounts frozen, we can pay for the one way ticket out of the US; but that's all they get, after that they're on the no-fly list and barred from entering any American soil ever again.

Hahah, but then again that is pretty draconian use of government force and cannot actually be done. Still, I do hate those whinny ass losers claiming to run away from problems instead of rolling up their sleeves and doing something about it.

You don't like my idea of how to "do something about it", Ikari. I believe we've had that discussion in the past. The only FIX left is bloody, brutal, and horribly unpleasant for everyone involved. It's also something that I'm beginning to seriously doubt even most Right-thinking Americans have the stomach for. So it's better to just walk away at this point.
