Does Mitt Romney has core beliefs?

Mitt Romney has core, unshakable political/religious/social beliefs

Even if you despise Barack Obama, at least you know where he is coming from. With Romney, who knows.
 
Romney is the typical political weasel; he is for all three sides of any issue, yet somewhat against it too. The GOP has decided to play the electoral college, winner take all, numbers game, and thus have abandoned any real platform at all. Presidential elections boil down to being controlled by the winner of a few key "swing" states, and those elections are decided by the mood of "independent" voters.

The GOP has now decided to use "moderate" or RINO candidates, like Dole, McCain and Romney to try to win that tiny segment of voters that now actually decide any national election. Romney will get all of the right and ABO vote, none of the left and, HOPEFULLY, enough of the "key" independent voters to get the win. That is the ONLY real GOP strategy present, and why Romney must simply "look presidential" and not make too many mistakes. USA, USA, USA...

That is exactly how elections are won: Look presidential, talk both sides of every issue, and target the few swing voters in the few swing states. Romney is only marginally better than Obama anyway, as they're a whole lot alike. Will Romney (if he's elected) do anything to cut back the deficit? To stop the so called "kill lists"? to end indefinite detention? Reform immigration? Who knows? He does have more experience and knowledge of what it takes to run a profitable business. Will he apply that to government? Can he? Who knows.

This election is a crap shoot.

It is VERY important for the appoinment of some new robed umpires, that may last 30 years. It is also ASSURED that Obama will continue to bumble along and run huge deficits, letting congress run the show. As leaders they are both weak, but at least Romney KNOWS that, and is more likely to to try something new. Obama has shown no tendency to do anything other than make speaches and constantly blame all ills on some outside force, yet take credit for anything that he can think of, even if he has no clue how it happened. Obama has kept very few of his 2008 promises of his hope & change BS, has not opened gov't, has not reduced the deficit, as not changed tax policy and has not done much of anything, outside of taking credit for ObamaCare that is evolving (yet still unpopular) as we speak. No he can't!

All good points. Will Romney be any different? Will the "robed umpires" be any different? They do wield a lot of power, as we just saw.

It's actually a kind of academic question for me anyway. Regardless of how I vote personally, it's a foregone conclusion that California will send its 55 electoral votes to Obama.

I think I'll vote for Johnson as a sort of protest. It's time some libertarian ideals were incorporated into the federal government.

that is a good point. If your state is a goner you might as well send a message by voting for the libertarian

here in Ohio I don't have that luxury. Obama is by far the worst of the two realistic choices

Newsflash: BOTH parties play Presidential elections in this manner. It's all about winning enough key states, and the importance of the overall popular vote is way down the list.

The make-up of the Supreme Court is pretty much the only issue that could get me to vote for either of the two major candidates. As you say, it's make-up has far-reaching implications way into the future.

Personally, I do NOT want a court so one-sided that decisions are almost always 9-0 or 8-1. I want a balance. A balance does have it's own set of concerns, as we have just experienced, but serves the nation as a whole better in the long run.

Really? How can you argue that when you have no idea what Romney actually believes in?

You have Obama who you detest. But you have Romney who's beliefs change by the second. How do you know that Romney will be better when you can't even be sure what Romney believes at any one time? Romney is like an electron is Quantum Mechanics. You can never be sure where he is on what he believes.
 
I believe he does he just hides them. I believe his views are more liberal then what he has said in order to appeal more to conservatives.

I think you're right.
He really isn't that much different from Obama, who isn't all that different from Bush, but he has to appeal to the conservative core of his party, which he does by lip service.
