Some things should be secret, or are you of a mind that President Obama should have anounced that he was sending in Seal Team 6?
About the sorry assed poll I don't know how to creat (in post #1), any vote or comment? :peace

Some things should be a secret eh? That type of thinking leads open societies to become closed. Nice of you to use the Seal Team 6 reference. We should have killed Osama bin Laden when we had the chance many years ago. We probably should have informed Pakistan in some sort of way that we were going to go and get him. Instead, we decided to invade a sovereign nation which ended up having one of our covert Black Hawks crash land. It was good that we got him, but the way we went about it was not right. We cannot continue to think that we can go into any country we want and capture anyone. That is dangerous thinking and it will endanger our National Security more then protect it.

As for your original questions. Nobody can be the new Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy labeled every supposed enemy of his as communist. He was delusional paranoid that spread nothing but propaganda. All Eric Holder needs to do (if he is innocent as he claims) is release the document. End of story. If you have nothing to fear then why are you hiding things?

If he is guilty of what? Putting a stop to voter purge in Fla. Selling guns? What exactly? :peace

Thanks for patroling my thread, now do you want to answer the questions in the OP? :( :peace
I gave my opinion. all documents should be released so I support Issa on this issue. it was one of your first responses, you are welcome

Joe spent a great deal of time developing his reputation and becoming one of the main the focuses of American politics, with liberals and fellow-travelers carrying his importance after his fall from the spotlight and death. You're talking about Issa in a similar fashion way too soon, where he has far less attention at this moment. I can only conclude that you are overreaching in order to taint Issa in a method similar to what many did by constantly referring to Chamberlin and appeasement.

It's painfully obvious that Issa is just out to get Obama. He should at the very least be removed from his chairmanship.

Rep. Issa's refusial to put on witnesses who offer other than his point of view. He has a reputation as a man who cares nothing for truth & would destroy reputations without a thought. Are we to wait longer & allow him to assasinate more reputations, Edward R. Murrow spoke out on the puplic airwaves to end McCarthy's reigne, otherwize he would have gone on forever. While no comparing myself to Murrow, I do believe his (Issa) Reigne has gone on long enough, it may take longer before real public outrage hurts him, but there was outrage befor Murrow, Just not a Majority. :peace

Issa stages productions not investigations. He could at least attempt the appearance of even handed but instead he winks to his base and the band plays on.

After his contraception hearing it isn't too early to make the comparison with McCarthy. Joe didn't start out shouting, he worked up to it.

Through the kindness of Serenity, the poll is up. Many Thanks...:2wave:
Now I hope to get some action on it, thanks to all who have played so far. J.P. :peace

Issa isn't looking too good, so far.
It's my opinion that he has no interest in the good of the nation, nothing but a bottom feeder hyper-partisan hack, willing to drag the country down in the muck, if it futhers his (the R's) agenda. Hey, looks as if I'm not alone. :peace

I was looking for the option that simply stated he was a ridiculous clown.

I didn't vote in the poll. Rep Issa is a watery fart right now, not yet worthy of a comparison to McCarthy or a permanent stain of our history.

Even Jesus or Hitler didn't start out being the Historical figures we all think of when their names are mentioned.
In a perfect world we can stop Issa before he reaches legendary proportions of evil. :peace

I'm not sure if it applies to this case, but...

IMO "because we want to" (the real meaning of "executive privilege" or whatnot) is not a valid reason to withhold information.
If someone did something stupid, we should know about it so we can kick their ass out of office, come next election.

Granted that since the people who that kind of rule would hurt are the ones who would be in charge of writing/passing such a rule, it very likely won't happen...

And of course, if such information would hurt the US by revealing secrets that need to stay such...well then I can see keeping that info secret.

Problem is that can be abused as well…but I’m by no means convinced that a completely open information policy would be reasonable. For diplomatic reasons, if nothing else – other nations simply wouldn’t communicate with us at the same level if they knew any communications they sent might show up in the news, easily accessed by intelligence agents for nations or forces opposed against them.

Sort of a catch 22 situation really – you probably can’t have any kind of (if it isn’t a cliché by now) “world peace” without something like a worldwide completely open information policy, and it would be nearly impossible (with today’s tech) to have a completely open information policy worldwide without world peace…heh.

If there's nothing to hide, then why use Executive Privilege? Let them see what they want to see. It seems simple enough.

If doing 'something stupid' is grounds from removing from governmental service....

well most of many past administrations would be empty from the Commander in Chief's seat on down.

Fact is past administrations have withheld information many on the other side of the aisle not to mention many concerned citizens.

Now about the potential for Rep Issa to make it to McCarthy/**** stain on history. I never say never but I just see our little pooper making it to the big time. Could be wrong about the guy but he just doesn't have that old time religion burn deep in the belly to grandstand with over the top poses for TV.

He reminds me more of an anal-retentive accountant who wants just keeps picking on your last nerve but never enough backbone to truly push the issue.

Will be interesting to see if he will put on his big boy pants and try to go toe to toe.

Evil is a strong word. Why is Issa evil in your view?

Well there are various levels of "doing something stupid".

There is the least problematic (but these days most likely to get you booted out) "stupid decision in hindsight" - which isn't really a stupid decision, but more of a bad call thing.

Then there's the "everyone gave bad advice and I personally didn't know any better" stupid.

Then there's the "multiple people gave me good advice, but I knew better" stupid.
And finally there’s the “I did this because I thought it was right even though decades of history and knowledge, hundreds of knowledgeable professionals, thousands of smart people, hundreds of thousands of average people, and millions of dumb and even illiterate people know that it was wrong, and I still say I was right even though events show I was wrong” stupid...

Issa asked for documents. He's well within his right to ask for them. They haven't been delivered. He's not backing down from what he wants. How does this equate to dragging the country down into the muck?

The difference between Issa and McCarthy is that, regrettably, McCarthy was sincere, but a bit misguided in his pursuit of Communists. Issa is insincere, but very much knows exactly what he is doing, in his pursuit of Holder.

LOL, This thing is OVER. He doesn't have to back down...he lost his bid to oust Holder. He's nothing but a loser.

AG Holder released ten's if thousand of documents, some,(He says) are documents that would be a vialation of existing law to release. Seeing as he did release the vast amount that he did & made the offer to confer off record about the others (offer refused by inquesitor Issa) then why can't we take he at his word.

Bush's attorney told Congress the White House would not turn over subpoenaed documents for former presidential counsel Harriet Miers and former political director Sara Taylor. Congressional panels want the documents for their investigations of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' stewardship of the Justice Department, including complaints of undue political influence.

Did I say evil, maybe, I don't recall. Although I do see him as an evil man (& he's not alone) for putting a vendetta ahead of country. He has been relentless in pursueing phantoms, with the professed objective of unseating the current administration, the fast & furous (alleged) scandle exists because Arizona allows the legal sale of unlimited quantities of weapons to any foodstamp resipent who walks in off the street with $60K, as long as they don't have a police record. Issa has publicly implyed that ATF was selling guns to Mexican Cartels with the objective of formenting wars among the various cartels, with an eye to taking away the second amendment. Such an agregish lie is IMO pure evil. The most ATF was/is empowered to do is try & keep the weapons under servailence, although the immediate transfer of the weapons purchused by the "Straw Man' is also legal, inside the U.S. So the only time they can arrest anyone is if they manage to keep track of them, & capture them in the act of transporting them over the border.
Don't even get me stated on the all male womans health hearing. :peace

Only the most partisan of people think that Issa has any other goal other to bring down the president.
Jackson: Darrell Issa's fake drug war
........There is also a fake drug war being waged by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Issa has been running a search-and-destroy mission not against the drug cartels, but against our own attorney general. Instead of prosecuting criminals, he now is pushing for a House vote on holding Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for not acceding to his fishing expedition. This unprecedented maneuver could lead to a constitutional crisis.

The real drug war is a clear and present danger. Between 2006 and February of 2011, more than 37,000 have died in Mexico's drug-related violence. Over one-fourth of the murders took place close to the U.S. border. And the violence has spilled over, with U.S. agents and citizens part of the death toll.

Rep. Issa's fake drug war is not investigating the war raging on our borders. Rather, his offensive is targeted at harassing the U.S. attorney general and winning political points against the president in the 2012 presidential election season.

But somehow, the search for truth and justice for all has been lost in this political gamemanship.

Holder has been dragged before the committee nine times; 7,600 pages of documents have been sent to the committee. But Issa has continued to up the ante, requesting access to items that the DOJ says might interfere with ongoing investigations. The president has sought to protect these investigations and the integrity of our government by invoking executive privilege -- a maneuver employed by nearly every president for the past 40 years. Yet, Chairman Issa has foregone those considerations and has continued to ask for more.....

The one thing that these older stories keep getting wrong & Issa is at least partly, if not completely responsable, is that somehow ATF had a hand in selling guns, they didn't. All gun sales were conducted legally by legal gun business to legal purchusers & any transfers to other parties were legal under Arizona Law. Rep. Issa has purposely directed this investigation (witch hunt) away from ATF, knowing that at best they would find that they let weapons they had under servailence, slip away. :peace
