Public tax payer funded teachers should not have their evaluations released to anyone

I think anyone should be able to make request public tax payer funded teacher's evaluations.Teachers are tax payer funded employees. As the people who pay their wages we should be allowed to see their performance evaluations.

It looks like even a broken clock can be right.

Mayor Bloomberg says restricting release of teacher evaluations is an outrage - NY Daily News
ALBANY — A plan to restrict the release of teacher evaluations is an “outrage” and would be a major cave to the unions, Mayor Bloomberg declared Friday.

“We have to run the system for the kids, not for the teachers,” he said on his weekly radio show.

The Daily News has reported the unions were speaking with Gov. Cuomo about a way to limit the release of evaluations to just parents. A

union plan would require parents to meet with principals to discuss the ratings without taking notes.

    snip...

Bloomberg argued that the union plan “is designed deliberately to keep the average parent that we have in this city from ever seeing an evaluation.”

Many working parents won’t have the time to schedule a meeting with the principal, he said.

    “It’s just unworkable.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I feel that a face to face meeting is rather unnecessary, that being said the instructors name and corresponding evaluation should only be available to the parents of the children who are taught by said instructor. Making them available to the general public as a whole would be foolish in my opinion, seeing as there is already more than enough theatrics surrounding discussions of the public school system in general in the present era.

As I'm a huge fan of the FOIA, release it to anyone for any reason.

Only their bosses. Job performance evaluations should not be public.

If I had a child, I'd personally like to know the integrity and capability of someone who has a large influence in their behavior and education.

This could easily get out of hand. Defense contractor employees could have their evaluations made public, or anyone accepting public money. We have some ****ty teachers out there, but let's not go crazy. I'd rather seem them booted for incompetence.

Yeah, I can see issues with this. If we allow that then it makes sense that ALL public employees should have their evaluations made public. That includes those of us in the military. I understand the sentiment behind it, but I see more bad then good coming from it.

As a taxpayer paying their wages I should have something available to me that shows me how well or how poor they are doing.

And yes, I see no problem applying this to ALL public employee's. Even the ones in the military. It doesn't need to be detailed. The only information that should be released is what infractions they got, what those infractions were for and how well they are doing on a scale of 1-10. The only exception to this that I would have is for military personnel if the infractions they recieved came about due to classified OPs. In this case the infractions don't have to be released...just that they got them.

This might make people more aware of what they are doing and consider their actions more closely.

I would make school evaluations public. But yes, individual evaluations should be used for fitness reports, and hiring/firing/promotion issues. No need for parents to start suing the school because little johnny got the second best science teacher.
