Which is an extremely obvious statement, seemingly often drowned out by those on the edge yelling that the other edge either likes or dislikes all change.

I agree that most people are in the middle. That is why we don't elect extreme politicians. We prefer milk-toast, and so that is the way we vote, as a whole. People like to blame politicians for our lot in life, but as I see it our representatives can be no better than the society that is voting them into office. Its why I remain a.........

    From wiki...
Before 1931, other songs served as the hymns of American officialdom. "Hail, Columbia" served this purpose at official functions for most of the 19th century. "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", whose melody is identical to the British national anthem,[2] also served as a de facto anthem before the adoption of "The Star-Spangled Banner".[3] Following the War of 1812 and subsequent American wars, other songs would emerge to compete for popularity at public events, among them "The Star-Spangled Banner".

Nothing like worthless partisanship injected into a thread that really has no need for it.

    Sigh.

I'd suggest staying with the current one. The fact it's hard to sing isn't a reason to change it in my mind. Neither is the notion it's about War....this country was born through warfare, it's part of it's history regardless if we like it or not. The fact it's about a Flag? Sorry, I don't have an issue with a National Anthem being strongly patriotic in nature...it's the freaking national anthem. If it had to be changed, America the Beautiful or God Bless America would be the ones I'd be fine with (in that order), though there'd be people screaming bloody murder on the first and possibly the second so it'd be a no go. I'm not particularly a fan of "this land is your land", strangely for the opposite reaosn of the "its too hard" argument. The tune and rhytem of it just sounds like a 3rd grade recital to me. I guess that's why the "it's too hard" doesn't bother me. I feel the melody and typical singing style of the SSB touches me far more and in a more profound way, in part due to the difficulty and the change in notes, than "This Land is your Land" and as such has a greater impact and appreciation for it and what it's representing.

That's actually probably why I'd prefer America the Beautiful if we had to change it. The booming start of the chorus has a similar effect and the songs rythem builds perfectly.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

For being reminded? I think Woody included everyone.

There are those who can find offence in anything.
How many times has a Republican idea been proposed by President Obama, (example, the Government Mandate) & R's suddenly oppose it?

Definitely. Those moose-****ers take great pride in knowing th ewords to their national anthem and it'll drive them crazy to hear thousands of Americans singing "O Canada, mmm mm mmm mm mm mmmmmm, eh!"

Indians rejected the notion of land ownership, for one. Plus, there's no mention of them in the song. It would also piss off extremist atheists with mention of a steeple.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.
