And I know kids like you who ran to Canada.........War is Hell..

Lots of folks love war -- to lots of military guys it's a chance to use their training and skill and get combat experience which helps their careers -- lots of folks like the thought of the US kicking ***, then there are the cool videos of guided bombs zeroing in on the bad guys ... BOOM KABLOOEY body parts flying everywhere! How cool is that!

Lots of folks think war is great. What's the use of having this high-tech military we if we can't use it to kick some booty now and then. Hell, we don't even have to pay for it because our brilliant and wise leader ("we will not pass along our problems to other Congresses, to other presidents, and other generations") just borrows all the money and is passing along our problem of paying for it to the next generation.

I've known a lot of armed forces guys that were itching for combat experience because that is the best way to get promotions.

Yeah and take a chance in getting killed..................That is total bull ****........

I must say the conduct of some here is disgusting. I have never attacked anyone, no matter the party, for their roll in active service military.

Even John Kerry deserves respect for his active duty.

Its his ludicrous actions against his fellow soldiers that I find apalling.

Some should be ashamed of themselves for questioning the service if a soldier simply because they dissagree with their politics.

downright shameful.

I pretty much agree with you but when someone like Kerry gets up in front of the DNC and makes his military service the framework for his presidential run that is another matter especially when there are some very questionable aspects to that service........

I give any service man or vet credit for his service but that does not give him the right or a free passto put his fellow service men down like Murtha does continually......

The guys I knew said that combat experience was a big plus in promotion consideration, is that not true? They could have been wrong.

That's true, especially when officers are dying around you, that's the fastest way to get a promotion. That said, that is not as common today, but certainly was in WW2, thankfully folks are not dying today on those large scales.

Maybe it is more relevant in times of prolonged peace where combat experience is more rare.
