Wow, I don't know what to say.

P.S. Can a mod fix the capital letters of U.S.E., please? The software cut them short.

I don't really know. I can't see Europeans really caring about their national sovereignty seeing how many of them decided to get rid of their currency and go with a multinational one.But maybe becoming a single country would be the line they don't cross.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

I'd like Europe to be a federation of states to protect ourselves. In that sense we'd be a single country, yes.
Now, this currency business is a tricky one and not simple to resolve.

I'd say that's up to the Europeans.

However, watching the bickering bitchiness that is the current EU, I don't see Europe coming together as a single nation governed by a single president and a single body, willing to wage bloody civil war if any of its "states" decide to succede. I've never understood why people continue to compare the USA to Europe. Entirely different continents with entirely different histories and cultures. It makes as much sense to ask if Africa could ever become the United States of Africa, which is as likely to happen in this century as it is likely the earth will flip on its axis.

No need for that. We should be a federation just to keep each others back and trade freely, not some tyrannical empire. If one wants to succeed, go ahead.

You are right. The USA were built pretty much from the inside out. The USE has to be built from the outside in.
If it is possible is another thing.

Well, that's the point! The USE will not be like the EU. Well, in theory, at least.
