How important do you consider the issue of gay marriage?

On a scale of one to ten, how much does it matter?

Giving homosexuals the right to marry is the right thing to do. For them not having the same rights as heterosexuals would not be treating every person equally, which I suppose most sane people would do in such an enlightened world as we have today.
Denmark legalized this in 1989.

Fundamental human rights; what is more important? Equality is a standard deserving of all and it's horrible when others are discriminated against, esp. under the legal system.

I agree 100% unfortunately there are more people than you would think out there that dont give a **** about this country, rights, liberties and equality. Their own personal beliefs are more important to themselves and treating thier fellow americans with respect and equality is meaningless to their arrogant hypocritical ways.

The definition of marriage should remain as stated in US Law. Let the LGBT Community create its own form of union.

the legal definition and other definitions of marriage are already different lol

LGBT community can already get religiously married but the law needs changed to insure equality and rid america of some more discrimination.

Any religion that wants too.
Let me ask you an off topic question. In your heart, do you believe it's right to steal from someone who would be considered "filthy rich"?

How so? lol

Well, since we have states where same sex couples are legally recognized as married, then we have legal same sex marriage in this country. And legally speaking, there is no part of legal marriage that would require the participants to be of different sexes in order to fulfill the legal responsibilities of marriage. And since same sex couples are not in themselves doing something illegal or otherwise causing harm to someone else, then their being legally recognized as married is not encouraging illegal or unhealthy (from a psychological viewpoint) relationships.

Which religions?

Reform Judaism, United Church of Christ, Metropolitan Community Church, Reconstructionist Judaism, many different Native American religions (there have been several Native American tribes who have legalized same sex marriage), many pagan and neopagan religious sects, and many different individual sects or denominations or even just simple, not completely affiliated churches of major religions will perform same sex weddings and/or accept same sex couples as married. My own religious beliefs, which are unaffiliated with any major religion, accepts homosexuality and same sex marriage with no problems.

Plus, why does it matter if many religions don't perform same sex weddings or accept same sex couples as married? This is about legal marriage, not personal/religious marriage. And there are also government officials who are legally allowed to officiate over any marriage, for any couple. No couple in the US has to get married by a major religion or any religion for that matter.

My own wedding was performed in the front yard of a relative's home, by a Navy wife who had gotten ordained over the internet so that she could make her family extra money by performing wedding ceremonies. She'll do pretty much any ceremony someone is willing to pay her to do. And it is actually becoming more and more common for military personnel to ask a buddy to get ordained or for a buddy to offer to get legally ordained just to perform a wedding ceremony for a fellow servicemember because of most military personnel moving and not attending any church in a regular manner, if at all.

Umm no. I fail to see what this has to do with SSM.

1.) How so? lol

Which religions?

1.) How so because legal marriage in which the other poster was referring is between man and women eventhough some smarter states have wised up and let it be same sex, thats how so lol

2.) any and all that allow, christian and catholic just to name some
