What's the point (other than personal entertainment) of becoming politically educated if one's vote is utterly inconsequential anyway? In a republic of 300 million people, what is the probability that one's vote will affect the outcome? Granted, our system of divided, winner-take-all electoral districts makes it slightly easier, but the prospect remains utterly implausible.

and my vote will mostly cancel out the vote of someone else who does not have the same political lean as me.

One should educate themselves on the issues and canidates and vote.

I will be voting; I have since I was eighteen years old, and I will vote to keep the Republican party out of the White House and from gaining a majority in either House of congress.

I will be voting because to not vote as a political scientist does seem a bit weird.

I will be voting for the best person for the job, Party affiliations are not what they are cracked up to be, all parties have wackos in them :)

And this is why our country is in the shape that it is in. Whatever happened to voting for the right person regardless of party affiliation?

Oh wait...they refuse to even look at what the other party has to offer. They look at all the negatives and never the positives. All while ignoring their own negatives. (even though they say that they don't)

will be voting this election. i've only missed voting for president once since i attained voting age.

Well its certainly a waste of time in Kansas if your going to vote for Obama. Its a waste of time if your something other than a Democrat or Republican such as socialist, communist, massive libetarian, fascist, etc.

Mitt Romney is not the right person for the job. I'm not crazy about Obama either and he's the other choice. Like most people in this country who will vote, the Republicans are the worst choice for anything these days. Don't forget, we'vw seen what the Republicans have to offer: we're trying to climb out of it now . . .

Of course I will vote. It is the duty of every citizen to exercise his franchise in running the State.

Some of you can argue the futility of it all you wish, but I'll take what say I have and do what I can with it.

I have voted in every election... state, local or national... since I was old enough to cast a ballot. I have voted for democrats and republicans, a couple of libertarians and independents, basing my votes on their position on issues and who I thought was best for the job. When faced by two people I believe unqualified and/or unsuitable, as in the 2008 presidential election, I have written the name of someone I believed was qualified and suitable.

I don't give a damn if my one vote didn't matter in the overall scheme of things. It mattered to me. It still does.

Well said. Right on.

Are you going to vote in the presidential election?

Maybe.I do not know yet.If there is a 3rd party candidate that comes close to my views then I will vote for him or her.Although Romney's choice of VP could infuriate me enough to vote for Obama.

Too many people believe that voting is a waste of time. But, it isn't. It is a responsibility of each citizen.

To a certain degree that is true assuming the voter is actually politically informed/literate and there is a candidate worthy of that voter's vote. When I say worthy of that voter's vote I am talking about a candidate the voter feels actually comes close to their views and has researched the candidate to make sure he or she is not a lying sack of **** merely claiming to believe something in order to get votes.

Too many politically ignorant people voting. The politically ignorant, and party-tards. Here is a description of these group of ignorant voters.

1. The politically ignorant voters would rather watch American idol, stupid ass reality shows, sports and other stuff than pay attention to politics. So all their information about the candidates comes from political ads and what ever the shows they watch may tell them and they get out and vote because stupid get and out and vote commercials tell them they should vote.

2.Party-tard voters just don't give a crap if the guy they are voting for is ideologically the opposite of them just as long as that candidate is in the same party they are in and the media says that candidate is the front runner. Some of these party-tards are politically informed and some of them are not. Its just that the main goal of the party-tard is making sure his or her political party wins. Party-tards will accuse anyone not voting for the media picked candidates of throwing their vote away as a means of trying to guilt people into voting for their guy. Yes folks if you choose to vote for a 3rd party candidate you believe or heck even if you vote a democrat or republican candidate you believe in but is not picked by the media or just not vote for any candidate because you believe they all suck the party-tards will accuse you of throwing your vote away.

If you don't believe in a candidate then do not vote for that candidate and just vote for a candidate you actually believe in. If you feel that none of those candidates are worthy of your vote then do not vote for any of those candidates, you can always leave that section of the ballot blank and vote in the other stuff like ballot questions, bond issues, other elections and so on. Don't vote for a candidate because someone told you that you should vote for that candidate.

I will vote because I understand what our forefathers did to make sure we had a voice as well as even if I vote for Obama in Kentucky knowing he will likely lose. Also, someday it would be nice to be on jury duty not to judge someone's fate but because you get paid to skip work and they have sandwiches.

A silent voice can still be a voice. Don't believe me? Just ask Chancellor Katehi...

Also most places don't normally go just by registered voters, but also by drivers licenses. I've yet to register to vote where I live and i've been called for jury duty twice. Though I never got selected to be on a jury because the people decided to plead guilty. :(

It is true your one vote will not make a difference in who gets elected. But your vote does count. While the popular vote does not determine who will be President, it can still have an effect. Will the President have a mandate or not? Have third parties garnered enough votes that the main parties may adjust their actions in order to win some of them back? The popular vote is important, and that is made up of all of our individual votes. I think it is particularly important to vote if you are voting for a third party, and it has nothing to do with whether or not your candidate will actually win.

Sadly most that will be voting, have no idea what the names of their current two senators are or the name of their current house represenatative is, much less who is running against them. Many voters simply vote a straight party ticket and even then have no idea who they voted for except for the office of president. Morons voting like this keep the current morons in DC safely re-elected (I predict over 80% of those running will be re-elected) even though congress has a public approval rating barely above roadkill. USA, USA, USA...

I intend to vote. As usual I will do my best to try and research candidates before hand, and as usual, other than the President, and national congressional representatives, I will more than likely fail.

Yes, and I will be voting for Governor Gary Johnson

Someone else's lack of information should not be our reason for not voting.
