I met a Hispanic guy online whose views I found troubling. He blamed the Jews for a lot of things such as corporate irresponsibility. He blamed the bank bailouts on the Jews. My best friend from high school was Jewish, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't scheming in the back of a synagogue on how to control all the banks so that she could rip everyone off.The man had the attitude that North America belongs to Mexicans, Native Americans, and no one else. He seemed to equate Mexico as a Native American tribe that had been abused by the white man (Americans). Do I have my history wrong? I thought Mexico was a North American country with European roots (in Spain) just like the United States has roots in England and Canada has roots in England and France. By far the most troubling thing he said was that all blacks should go back to Africa and all whites should go back to Europe. To me that sounds like a racist statement against both black people and white people. Do you agree?

Btw, I'm white, but I didn't come here from Europe. I was born here. Almost everyone I know who's black was also born here. And I think his history is wrong. Mexico is not a Native American tribe.

Yep. The guy you were talking to is racist as Hell. Silly white people, thinking we invented racism.

Well Mexican is a blend of native and European. Most whites in the USofA are not a blend of Native and European.

Not all Mexicans are the blend of course, some are directly spanish, french, german, your typical smattering of Europeans and orientals.

But the Jesus that comes to mind is a Spanish/Indian mix. 'Your' mexican is most likely a spanish/native blend and is leaning on his native side.

Luna,

I gotta ask, this is a stalking horse question isn't it? I mean you are really going to sit there and attempt to say you have never met a racist or bigot who isn't a WASP?

If true, you REALLY need to get out more and in a more diverse neighborhood.

Quite a lot actually are, including myself, though certainly not as many as in Mexico.

Um ... no. I posted the question because I've definitely run across plenty of anti-white racism (especially when living in Hawaii), and when I've brought it up, it's been dismissed as nonsense.

Jesse Jackass and Al Sharpton are proof that there is anti white racism and racists

Yes, in my experience black women are really damn racist and their significant other is not. I always found it very peculiar.

The type of "racism" you allude to is opportunity. This is not genuine racism, just as a conservative exclaiming "Taking Obama's word for it", is not them actually being stupid/racist about where he was born or a numerous amount of others. It is just pandering to the sheep.

Oh yeah. People of all colors are equally capable of hating people of other colors for no rational reason.

There's just as much racism among non-whites as there is among whites. Possibly more.

Many Japanese, for instance, are racist as hell against anyone who isn't Japanese.

Its not peculiar...black women have a rough road...what particularly makes them disdainful is black males attraction to white women.
There is plenty of anti white racism....anyone that believes racism is a one way street is quite naive.

Dude sounds like an ethnocentrist nationalist.

The difference between Mexico and US/Canada is that the vast majority of Mexicans are mestizo - meaning a mix of Spanish and native blood. Whereas in the United States, the vast majority of the population are the descendants of European immigrants who displaced the natives and eventually sequestered them in reservations. So the European heritage/identity in Mexico isn't as strong as it is in Canada and the US.

As for the poll, before I answer, I think we should agree on the meaning of the word racism:

The definition of racism is controversial both because there is little scholarly agreement about what the word "race" means, and because there is also little agreement about what does and doesn't constitute discrimination.

(snip)

Some sociologists have defined racism as a system of group privilege.

Racism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How we define the word changes whether it was or not. This example seems more like prejudice to me.

Absolutely, I have experienced it more than once. Of course, I am man enough to keep my chin up and keep going, unlike many whiners on this forum ...

Well that could be one reason, but I assure you that in the case of these women it was not. The one guy I'm friends with he is totally cool, although he personally can tell me why he doesn't like certain white people he doesn't hate all of them in general. His wife though is just crazy racist. Funny thing is, their daughter is only a little younger than me and my wife and got knocked up and married a white guy so they must be having fun with that.

Just in general though while not all most black women I have ever been in contact with for over an hour have in general been very unpleasant. As for the remark about Japanese I know a like of Japanese at work that actually are more sexist than racist, as they don't believe any of the women there should do what we do that they should only do office work or jobs associated with women traditionally like nurses. They do run around going "Baku American" from time to time, but I've heard a lot of them don't really care for the Chinese or Taiwanese which I can understand with some bad history...

There is such a thing as anti-white racism although I think a lot of people mislabel things that aren't that as that.

LOL, neither one of those guys is racist against white people. Please.

BTW, remember that time you said it was okay to be suspicious of black people on college campuses because there's a good chance they don't deserve to be there?

Or that only the US has ever indulged in it.

Well, in fairness... We're #1!!

American ingenuity and all that.

Back then, hunh? All in the past? Worldwide (which includes the US) it's a constant and pervasive issue - without signage and without apologies in some places.

As an individual and distinct identity, correct, but the heritage and history is still there nonetheless.

I remember Sambo's. Used to go there a lot as a kid.

The guy you're talking about sounds more anti Semitic than anti white, but sure, racism crosses all ethnicities. It is a universal human failing, one that diminishes with experience and education, but still exists.

It probably started with my tribe friends, all other tribes enemies.

Some sociologists have defined racism as a system of group privilege.

I've heard arguments that claim racism is inherently institutional and that it's only true racism if one group is in power and using that power to subjugate another race. I don't buy that. I think racism is simply prejudice against another person or persons based on race. The power-based definition of racism has problems. Most of us can agree that Confederate President Jefferson Davis was extremely racist against blacks. His government, of course, had the power to subjugate them. So under the power definition, Davis was racist while President. However, after the war when he was in prison, then by definition he's no longer racist because he's no longer in a position of power. This is even though he holds the same attitudes.

What nonsense. A person who regards another race as inferior is a racist regardless of whether he holds any power to subjugate anyone or to uphold a position of group privilege.
