I've heard several people complain about President Obama (and President Bush before him) taking too much vacation. I'm curious whether people think it would be a good idea for the presidency to come with a set amount of vacation per year just like any other job. And if so, how much. This is a multiple choice poll. The first two options are whether or not you think this is a good idea, the other 8 are for, if you said yes, how much you think he should get.

Let 'em vacation as much as they want to.

1. Prez is a very stressful job.

2. The less gov't does, generally speaking the happier I am....

4th of July
Thurs and Fri of Thanksgiving
Week of Christmas

That's it.

the current "vacations" aren't really vacations, as the president is on duty the entire time. how is "vacation" defined?

The president is on the job 24/7/365. He does not ever get a real vacation.

I think a little more... I'd be generous.

3 weeks of vacation
Christmas day & day after
New Years
July 4th
Memorial Day

But of course, the President would need to be on call in case of an emergency, and would always need to be on call 24/7. Hazard of the job I'm afraid...

Everyone else working has a finite number of weeks for vacation, so why not the President?

I said 4 weeks a year.

I had never thought about limiting his vacation time, but then upon reading the OP I thought this... maybe 4 weeks.

But, as has been mentioned, they don't really take vacations like we do, either. Plus, even if we did limit it, they still take them and classify them as something else, thereby encouraging even more duplicity. They're always on call, they're always being watched, I say leave it as is.

This is substantially a ridiculous proposition. President's do not go on vacation, they only move their base of operation. Sure they might get a round of golf in, chop some wood or ride a mountain bike around the ranch, but they do not have vacations like most of us. I don't know about you, but when I go on vacation... I may take my phone, but I have someone in charge at the office and don't want any calls unless its an emergency... I want to get away. Presidents get no such luxury. Who cares if there base of operations moves to Camp David, Nantucket, Crawford, Martha's Vineyard, Kennebunkport, Rancho del Cielo, Plains, Vail, San Clemente, Hyannis, Gettysburg or Timbuktu?

Perhaps we should also restrict the Prez to two ten minute coffee breaks a day?

I'd say 2 weeks and that means no interruptions. Isn't that why we have a Vice President?

I think he should get somewhere around what the average American gets.Which I believe starts out a week and then after a certain number of years more vacation time is earned.

a worker who doesn't take time off, is an unhealthy worker.

give him 5 weeks a year.

but of course, even during those 5 weeks, he's still working. so its kinda meaningless.

the President only gives up his responsibilities when he's incapacitated. Vacation be damned.
