A house as a grad present from high school?

Yeah. It was the house I grew up in. I have spent the last 12 years remodeling it. My wife and daughter helped every bit of the way. My wife and I are moving to another state. My daughter is going to college in our home state. The school is 4 blocks from the house. The house is paid off and I trust she will appreciate the house as much as we have. This saves us on Housing costs during college and gives her a start in life. I know its a little uncommon but these are not common circumstances.

at least financially, I don't know of anyone who is worse off than then were 3 years ago.

three years ago, my sister and my cousin were layed off. Now they are both working full-time again.

That is awesome for all of you. It is easier to study in a place that isn't a dorm room.

Exactly. Plus she can rent out a couple of the rooms to friends that are going to the same college. That should help her pay for regular bills like Internet, Cable, Food, Etc. I can't think of a better way for her to get started in life and make college living a little easier.

Not only am I better off financially, I sleep much better with someone with brains in the Whitehouse. The 8 years of Bush was one nightmare after another. I still fear another attack should another Republican get elected President though. I am not one of those that enjoys war and the useless deaths of American soldiers and I look forward to us withdrawing from Afganistan.

Definitely better.

My family is stronger, making more money, work in a better department, bought a house last year, savings more money every week.
I'm rolling. :)

Well I have a pimp hat of power, as seen by this gentleman.

Putting aside my bias which some people can't do I will say no.

Hussein Obama and his administration froze all COLA raises so I could not keep up with inflation......Food prices at the grocery store have at least tripled.........Gas prices have doubled.........My stock portforlio is about where it was 3 years ago so I have only hold my own there..........There is total Cayous in the middle east with the threat of Nuclear War..........

Without any idea what you edited out, you are either lying or trying to be funny. Which is it?
(regarding the first line)

And it's chaos.

Yes, I'm better off now than 3 years ago by almost any metric I can think of.

I have a good job that I didn't have 3 years ago, I have better health insurance and more spending cash, I'm actually making progress paying down my student debt, I figured out how to form relationships whereas I didn't have a clue about women 3 years ago, I eat much healthier and am more physically fit, I'm much better organized than I used to be, I volunteer my time and money...and I'm just generally a happier person. :)

How much of that extra 5 trillion dollar debt am I responsible for?

yes.

three years ago, i was about to lose my job due to funding cuts. in the interim, i worked a contract job with higher salary, and now i'm back at the job i worked previously.

there was a rough 9 months where no one was hiring. in January of 2010, things got a little better, at least in my field. i'm hoping that trend continues.

If you are or not explain in what way.

Better. My company has been hiring a few more people, everyone around here isn't scared of being laid off. We are getting plenty of jobs from our clients and it seems like everything is moving again. My wife's uncles business is doing better and therefor offered her a job where she works less hours and makes the same amount of money which she took and did so well at that she's already gotten a raise after only five months or so. I have gotten a good raise this year. The last year of Bush I got no raise and they have been very minimal up until now just because of how the economy was.

All in all, I am making more money, my wife is making more money, I'm able to work all the overtime I want for extra income if the wife and I want to spend some money without digging into savings (I'm currently installing hardwood floors that have all been paid for through over time pay), alot of the guys my company had to lay off when the recession hit have found jobs once again in the industry, where as when they first got laid off they had to take on lower paying retail jobs and what not etc. etc. etc.

Things are getting much better and it's almost impossible not to notice.

2007 and 2008...weren't so great. 2009, 2010 not bad, could have been worse. 2011...it was a bumper crop year. This year...gonna be even better if all stays in the direction thing have been progressing. No complaints here.

I'm just holding my breath about capital gains taxes. Hope they don't go up, in other words.

I am better off by far.

My household income is almost double what it was. My family life has become more stable for the most part.

certainly yes ,i have been learning new things from this life day by day.....

Guess I had to vote no. I am not better off, nor am I worse.
I have been retired for seven years. Even without COLA's, my head is way above water. It helps to plan for retirement.

I know this will get in the way of your rant, but the administration had nothing to do with COLA not going up in 2010 and 2011. You did get a COLA in 2012 of 3.6 %. The way COLA is figured was determined long before Obama was president. Facts, they are good. Gas prices are double, but that is what we call a free market. Obama did not cause that. Why do you hate capitalism? If your stock portfolio has not gone up, you have ****ed up royally. Your portfolio should be worth about 30 % more than it was then, which is pretty damn 3 year increase. The middle east is worse, but could probably be even worse with a different president, and unlikely to be better.

So sucks that your rant fails so badly, but you really should try for facts instead of lies.

That's just some piss poor investing, right there. On 4/24/09 the Dow closed at 8,076.29; the NASDAQ at 1,694.29; and the S & P 500 was at 866.22. Today, as I write this post, they are at 12,992; 2,957; and 1370 respectively.

Why haven't you fired your investment adviser?

Do you know what the Dow was at the end of the DOT COM era.....You can't figure it half way my friend......

Thread topic: Are you better off today then you were 3 years ago?

He is figuring the whole three years, not halfway.

Boy are you misinformed............I did not get a COLA raise for 3 years and yes we got one last year.....3,6% does not make up for 100% raise in the price of gas nor does it make up for the skyrocketing price of food cause by truckers raising their prices to cover the cost of their gasoline.........In case you did not know it every cost in passed down top the consumer..........wake up and smell the roses.......

Oh and the Hussein Obama administration with all their un needed regualations is one of the reasons Hussein Obama's administration is in charge and the buck stops with him.......They say no COLA because the cost of living did not go up..........I would love to show them my crocery bill.........
