Frankly, we haven't been involved in a legitimate war since Korea.

I would try but considering I am medically disqualified from the Army I doubt they would let me

Are you American? What is the context of your question? Are we talking about an invasion of the 50 states?

I'm not very fond of war to begin with. If you were to break down the historical wars I would have been involved with, it would look a lot like TheDemSocialist's. Wouldn't touch most of 'em with a 10-foot pole. Some of them I think were just flat-out wrong. A small minority were worth fighting.

So I'm pretty difficult to convince on the matter of war to begin with. I need a very good reason to go kill a bunch of people, most of whom had absolutely nothing to do with the problem in the first place (and, depending on who we're fighting, who might not even be there voluntarily).

On top of that, this particular America doesn't value me, or just about anyone else who isn't in the upper echelons, in the least. We frankly have it coming. I remain here primarily because I have been unsuccessful at emigrating permanently, and secondarily because I am still hoping it's not too late to turn this Titanic around.

My being American is an accident of birth. Said accident does not instantly obligate me to do jack.
Whenever I hear sentiments like this I translate them as, "As much as I hate it here, I've looked, and no place else is better.". At least not better enough to make one get up and do it.

In terms of defending against an invasion or attack, absolutely will defend. Offensive attacks in the name of whatever, then no. Of course if you're already serving you don't have a choice in the matter. You go.

You're hearing incorrectly (more particularly, you're hearing whatever you want to hear to justify your own opinion and discount anyone else's). What you should hear is "The emigration process is difficult, and lacking either family or a particularly in demand degree, it is sometimes impossible."

I got up and attempted to do it twice.

Well, I was thinking, in a case of emergency, how many Americans would defend the USA as it is, if that matters at all. Apparently, the question was too broad to answer.

Invasion of American soil, mostly. I don't buy into the "this dictator 10 000 miles away is an insult for the USA, so we're gonna knock him down" story.

If the United States was threatened by invasion then yes. Other than that it depends.

All it would take is a threat?

So it's justifiable for plenty of countries to attack the USofA based on the fact that "we've" threatened them?

    Is that right?
