Hardly surprising. Many of the people who are born here take what we have in this country for granted.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

See I can respect that. Not everyone is cut out for military life. I suppose the original topic might be kind of vague. I'm thinking of would you take up arms and fight period vs. would you enlist, go to basic training, advanced individual training, get armed and then go off to the fight.

I can't believe there are 7 people who will take all the benefits this country offered yet refuse to defend it in a time of war............They are the epitpme of a coward IMHO.

See that is me. I would fight for my country, but not in the military. Hiding in tree tops for me.

Why do people put "IMHO" after incredibly arrogant opinions?

Re: Would you go to war to defend the USA?

Depends on the nature of the threat and how the USA will go about it. WWII? Yes. Revolutionary War? Yes. Most other wars that we fought? Nope... Especially not post WWII. Persian Gulf 1... possibly.

That is how I took it... but if it meant supporting the war effort in a meaningful way then I would almost always.

I disagree. Civilian guerrilla warfare is very effective against an occupying force. Any nation considering an occupation below the Mason Dixon line, and the American Midwest would not be there for long. I would not reenlist, simply because a civilian is not bound to the treaties, or conventions that the military must obey.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.

Or, hell, occupation in any major city.

I think he means get out of the way of those opposing the invasion... not everybody is a fighter nor should they be. We need all skill ranges to win in that situation.
