Who would receive your vote?

None-Bush didn't care enough to be reelected and he made the mistake of compromising with the dems on the taxes-he was too naive to understand they would never give him credit for that move that was going to cost him votes from people like me. He also banned the importation of lots of expensive rifles to appease the gun haters

Clinton-nope-not with his gun bans and his tax hikes and his judicial picks

Perot-nope-too much ego-he ran because he wanted to screw Bush over for not kissing Perot's ass enough

I voted Libertarian then. Bush deserved to lose, Clinton and Perot didn't deserve to win

Perot was, by far, the most electable libertarian we've ever had.

When I first heard that Perot was going to run, I was very hopeful. Some of what I knew about his past seemed to me to be indicative of someone who could be very good Presidential material. I thought his success in business would indicate a good sense of how to run a national economy, and I was particularly impressive by something he did during the 1970s. Back during the Iran hostage crisis, while Jimmy Carter was busy kissing the Khomeiniacs' asses trying to get them to release the embassy personnel that they were holding, Perot had dealt in a much more realistic and effective manner with another group of Khomeiniacs holding some of his employees. He hired a gang of mercenaries who went into Iran, kicked some serious butt, and brought Perot's employees safely home.

Unfortunately, once his campaign was underway, and Perot actually started opening his mouth, he came across as bat**** crazy, and not in a way that was in any way good.

I thought he came across as intelligent, eloquent, and economically well-versed. The problem? The average American is not intelligent, eloquent, and economically well-versed.

He would sit there and explain economics on big white boards that, while sensible down to every last market stroke, was far beyond the mental realm of John Q. Public. They don't want that. They want the old white conservative Republican who glad-hands all the yokels when they come to town, or the smooth-talking, good-looking youngster who would shoot a round of pool with them at the bar.

The average person is not just ignorant to intelligence, they're apathetic to it these days.

I was 12, but I do remember laughing at Ross Perot and his ears.

I remember a local politician who also did stand up claiming that Ross Perot could not be elected because he didn't meet natural born. So someone (a plant) said where is he from and the guy claimed he was the Ferengi Ambassador to Earth

All who were alive and adults please raise your hands. Bigfoot88, where were you?

I just HATE revisionist history.

Clinton all day long! That man was a leader...**** liar though

Voted for myself back then (got 3 votes). Today, I'd vote for Clinton.

What % of the vote did he get 20%? I wouldn't call it electable but it does beat Ron Paul. He can only get 10 or 11% of Republicans.

If those are my 3 choices, Clinton, all day everyday

I don't know. I was 7. I would likely vote for the Green
Ranger or a velociraptor.

Alright, let's say I know what happens in Clinton's first term (and not his second) and am allowed to retroactively vote accordingly. I would vote for Bush.

Nota, just to let you know, revisionist history is a regular productive part of the historical discipline. It is a central tool to what we call Historiography. Mostly what people object to is a revisionist history that either a) they feel is exaggeration, based upon their own expertise in the field b) does not agree with their wide view of the matter, as a non-specialist. Revisionism occurs regularly on specific individuals, groups of people, events, or the history of an entire country.

my first vote ever was for Perot. i turned 18 the week before voting.

i think Clinton did a decent job, however.

He wasn't perfect, and to be honest I am not 100% up on many of his social positions. I know that, fiscally, he had a very strong libertarian stance.

And I do support tariffs to a certain extent. I thought Clinton was a great president, but I still say NAFTA was his great mistake.
