    Somalia or North Korea?

So a stock response to a Libertarian may be "Yeah, see how Somalia works out for you". To a Socialist, an opponent may query why they don't move to North Korea.

So given those stark options, forced out of a home country which views you as a dangerous extremist, which do you choose given two hypothetical plane tickets?

    Re: Somalia or North Korea?

Now, let me preface this by saying that Somalia is a terrible place to live. Poverty, violence, and oppressive Islamist groups would ruin my day, but Somalia has improved in many ways since 1991. The Ethiopian and Kenyan invasions have thoroughly f'd up the country, but I doubt that North Korea is better.

I thought this was a silly poll but then decided why not. I picked Somalia but for 1 and only 1 reason. It is easier to leave Somalia than North Korea.

North Korea isn't socialist or even Marxist. It's an authoritarian racial military state.

Somalia isn't a libertarian situation in the least; it's a failed state ravaged by civil war. A basic government is needed to protect property rights to even start considering a nation "libertarian".

No vote here either...What is the difference between Hades and Hell ?

However, 5 years from now, NK may have softened and in 10 years may reunite with SK.

I do not see the same good outlook for Somalia....it takes time to progress from the stone age..

This is an interesting topic. It's also hard to give you a straight answer. On the one hand, North Korea is somewhat more stable and has laws. Corrupt laws, but laws. Somalia is governed largely by the rule of violence. Given that I'm not particularly violent, but very good with the law, I'd probably be better off in North Korea. It's a suckers game either way, though.

the problem, being, of course, that anarchy =/= libertarianism, which assumes among other things a State with Police Powers to enforce the Rule of Law, Individual Rights, Contracts, and so on and so forth.

however, I vote Somalia. If you can get your hands on a gun, you've got a fighting chance of making it to a African-Force structure. Assuming you know where they are.
