Should Outgoing Presidents be Made Secretary of the Interior?

...so I was thinking about a neat little trick that might be able to build a more cohesive country.

Imagine if the outgoing President remained in the Cabinet regardless of party affiliation or relationship with the incoming President. This way, leadership would have the chance to pass down traditions from one term to the next, and prior Presidents would still have a token, artistic, organic say as to how the country is run.

The DoI isn't terribly powerful, but it's still something that needs to be taken care of. It would also ensure that Presidents literally don't forget about the land they expected to govern over. If things don't go well while Presidents, they'll be held responsible while Secretaries.

Another advantage is the DoI could serve as a cooldown responsibility for Presidents re-entering public life. They could go on a relatively neutral campaign, supporting and touring landmarks, and just being generally patriotic. In the case of questionable policies, it would also give ordinary people a chance to ask Presidents to atone and confess for whatever they did.

    Sound good?

i think it would be more beneficial if we exiled every former president into another country.

there is a reason we have term limits, and that is to keep the same people from having influence for too long.

I think it's a good idea, and I'm going to think about it some more. In general, continuity of government is a good thing and it concerns me that the entire Executive branch rolls over every four or eight years.

chants of "he lied they died" at the opening of every new ranger station at a national park doesn't sound cohesive to me.

The morality of abortion is not a religious belief, any more than the morality of slavery, apartheid, rape, larceny, murder or arson is a religious belief. These are norms of the natural law of mankind and can be legislated even in a completely religionless society.

I'm inclined to favor the email that claimed politicians should be limited to two terms: one in office, one in prison. It works for Illinois...
