Why does being American have anything to do with commenting on the Nobel peace prize?

and they complain with reason .... I do too and I am not American .... its a joke! :lamo funnyyyyyyyyy

because I feel like a lot of Americans feel like that the Nobel peace prize is there to appease Americans and when they give it to someone that is not liked or respected in America then a lot of commentators brand the award as a joke.

It certainly has become a joke in the past decades. The nominees, the winners... give me a break. Assuange, the treasonous weasel, was actually nominated!

Total joke, worthy only of ridicule and derision. Several times the prize has actually been awarded to some global organization, like the UN Peacekeeping Forces, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations...

I could go on. It's an international back-slapping award.

People have opinions and love to complain I do not think it is an exclusively American thing.

Assange, Arafat, Obama...that's, what, .08% of all winners? All this slamming the Nobel Prize Committee, based on a number winners you disagree that with you could count on one hand?

Sorry, I think the vast majority of winners deserved it, and the money given out to further projects or research has done immeasurable good.

not saying it is but in this discussion I think it is the case.

A little nit to pick, as Assange isn't an American citizen it's not really accurate to call him treasonous, but he is a douche I'll give you that.

if you go around the world, you will find there are many who deserve the nobel peace prize more than those who accept it.like i said my god we gave it to obama,i wouldnt have been mad so much if they had given a prize to missionaries and charity volunteers who go to the most violent and poor regions of the world actually risking their lives to make a difference, but no its more important celebrities recieve it than those who actually do the dirty work.

Then let's go to a forum on Mars so we can declare the Martians moan and groan too much...

Quite right. His cohort Manning is a treasonous weasel. Assuange is merely a treacherous weasel.

I disagree. Here is my post with the added edit.

Yes, I believe it's a joke. They also nominated Al Gore, who I like just fine, but what the hell did he ever do for world peace? Jimmy Carter, arguably the weakest president the USA has ever had... what was his contribution to world peace? He decided not to invade Iran when they took our diplomats hostage, and managed to okay one of the biggest and deadliest failed military rescues ever... and he made it clear that he was against Israel and for Palestine. For that they bestowed a world peace award? Obama? Yeah, after less than a month in office he was a major contributor towards world peace.

What the hell does an Intergovernmental Climate Change Agency do for world peace? The IAEA? Ridiculous.

It's a political award, nothing more.

Nice nationalistic dig there, especially since many of the Americans who've won are on my WTF? list. But way to get in an well-aimed across-the-pond punt. :)

Come on you have a case of the butt about some American thing. This appease and complain stuff is not your style...:)

yeh im just being a dick tonight lol

In a demand economy, sustainable recoveries from recessions start from the bottom; people buying more products and services, stimulating suppliers to respond to demand. Where that money comes from is what the debate it about.

LOL, recovery comes from the bottom. We just don't know where they get all that money from. Obviously not from growth at the top where all the sustainable money is.

Yes, economists are all about charts and graphs. And the good ones can integrate those, predict, build models off of basic principles. I guess Krugman could be a good economist if he wasn't so two dimensional and could build on the basics to create an economic model that works and anticipates effects of his initial policies.

He ran for president and won.

In a country that, not even a half-century ago, allowed blacks to be segregated from whites.

Our country has a long sad history of violent bigotry and mistreatment of minorities, especially blacks.

His accomplishment of winning a presidential election is major. We've finally caught up to the 20th Century.

Ghandi should have one.

None of this **** has anything to do with the Nobel Prize........It was strictly a political move by a far left organization........

... Really? Just so I know - what's "far left" about NPP?

It's not a joke but it is highly political.

There is and honest man......I am going to give a thanks to Liberal and that has only happened twice about 4 years ago when I gave 2 to Captain Courtesy.
