Let me know what you think about this new definition for "racist". Mind you, please keep in mind today's social and political climate.

Racist:

1: Anyone that says or does anything even remotely or subjectively negative towards someone that is not of their race.

2: A belief that your race is superior to that of another race.

i thought "racist" was now officially a synonym with "conservative"???

gosh, i'm so embarrassed....

Oh yeah..and..uh...just to get my vote out of the way I am voting "Perfect"...after all, I did write it.

I quietly cheer for the white guys in basketball games; is that just stepping way over the line?

1. it is racist to cheer for the white guys
2. it is racist to assume they will be the underdogs, when the evil history of slavery in this country means that blacks are unfairly held back and kept from fully developing their talents - in fact blacks are the underdogs in basketball due to the fact that 200 years ago before it was a sport only whites would have been allowed to play.

both of you need to send money to Al Sharpton right now.

Line one is just stupid. Look at the word "racist" it just does not fit with #1 as it is to all encompassing.

What would your description of racist mean, if I may ask?

No doubt. But considering today's social and political climate? I'd have to say that it's spot on.

Well before we can define what a racist is, we need to know or define racism...

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Examples:

1. White people are better because we are white.
2. Nazi Germany and the treatment of Jews.
3. White or Black nationalists who believe they have the right to segregate from everyone but their own race.

So it is pretty simple.

The problem is far to many see bigotry or insensitivity as racism, and I think it is just thinned skinned and stupid.

I agree 100%, and that makes it even more stupid, lol.

You left one out

3. Any white person

The word already has a definition and one that works perfectly fine. The fact that people misuse the word is the problem, not that the definition is wrong.

gosh, i'm so embarrassed....

I fixed that for you.

Actually, it is common among idiots to call any one they disgree with on any topic remotely related to race in any possible way "racist".

I think today there's two problems.

The first is people who see racism everywhere.

The second is people who don't think it exists at all anymore, and when it's mentioned, it's called "race baiting" and you're called a racist for bringing it up.

Which isn't to say there aren't race baiters out there.

But is it misusing it? We all know that the definitions of words change. Is it possible that the definition of "racist" has changed and those of us that actually adhere to the older definition just haven't realized it yet?

Also everyone please note that my OP was half satire half serious.

The conservatives have done this to themselves.
Akin to the Islamics, they must clean their house.
As yet, all the brooms are idle.

Yes it is misusing it. Don't forget that if you change the word to mean what you want so you can use it to vilify people without them being able to claim you don't have a clue what racism means, then the word will lose all it's impact.

"way to broad" ??
As written, this makes no sense.
We need to have English, correct, proper English as our language.
We need to learn to respect others.
The "new " definition is OK, as far as it goes..
As to our Mr Martin....He is a stringbean, young, and thanks to man's fear .....dead..
Maybe in another 500 years, we can put racism behind us !

YES
Do learn to be color blind...
In my "day", as I recall, there were no minorities on any team...slavery was still undergoing aboshiment...and it still is...things die slowly.
There was so much fear and hatred of "blacks" that the very idea of one on a basketball team was unthinkable....and that(my fear) no one would enjoy a basketball game dominated with "blacks".
Boy !
Was I ever wrong !
Glad of it, too.
We have come a long way.
Magic Johnson's group has purchased the Dodgers in LA.

If a person is a "race baiter", and not a "racist", are they a better person than a racist?

This is something I do not understand. Being a racist is bad. Being a race baiter is bad. Why do we need a relative scale as to which is worse? Just do not be either, and condemn both when confronted by them.
