Is the Rev. Al Sharpton a racist?

Is Al Sharpton a racist

I don't think he's a racist. That said, I don't think as many people ar racist as many people suggest. I think he's absolutely a race baiter, and one who uses race to his absolute political advantage. I believe his motivations however are fueled by a desire for power in general than by any true malice, hatred, or degradation of another race or any belief of true superiority, higher nature, or better standing of his race over another.

This doesn't make him any less of a scummy human being.

You mean other than trying to use Obama's middle name to insunuate he is Muslim?

How about this time:

Or this time:

Or this time:

Hell NP< that is page one still of a search that returns 146 posts, and I could easily come up with different parameters.

I feel compelled to ask how any of these examples fit the definition of racist you quoted earlier.

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Racism is the belief that inherent different traits in human racial groups justify discrimination. In the modern English language, the term "racism" is used predominantly as a pejorative epithet. It is applied especially to the practice or advocacy of racial discrimination of a pernicious nature (i.e., which harms particular groups of people), and which is often justified by recourse to racial stereotyping or pseudo-science. Racism is popularly associated with various activities that are illegal or commonly considered harmful, such as extremism, hatred, xenophobia, (malignant or forced) exploitation, separatism, racial supremacy, mass murder (for the purpose of genocide), genocide denial, vigilantism (hate crimes, terrorism), etc.

Not that I'm agreeing with his statements, but I'm not fully sure what you're defining racism as.

The concept of race is archaic, unscientific bilge. Inevitably those who are bullied join together to defend themselves, using, often, the codwalloppy labels of the bullies. I do wish America would drop this silly idea altogether and find something sensible to think about.

Exactly. And, the myth that minorities 'can't be racist' needs to be buried as well.
Of course they can be !
They are humans, with all the weaknesses.
And how about hundreds of years of disrespect, hatred, bigotry, oppression vs the now tens of years ????
Of course, again, neither is right....but its high time that "they" admit to having started this mess centuries ago....
And, as I say, we are working with humans, not perfect creatures by any means...
So, learn to tolerate !

Get rid of the Imus's, Sharptons, Rushes and replace them with kind decent people....if there are any......
America needs to grow up !

Re the OP: Of course Sharpton is a racist; there is no other answer but 'Yes' to the poll. The Democrats love racists, and don't even mind running them for office, another reason they're no longer an option as the other wing of the Billionare Boys Club. Obama is also a racist, which is why so many racist blacks and Democrats voted for him; if he weren't, he would never have been electable, at least since 1984, as a Democratic candidate.

and Republicans seem to love race-baiters.

I did not call NP a racist, nor do I think he is one. Please do not build that straw man.

If a white man said the reverse...

"White folks was in caves while we was building empires... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it." -- Rev. Al Sharpton in a 1994 speech at Kean College, NJ, cited in "Democrats Do the Dumbest Things

I'm not sure how strong guilt by association is, but doesn't Al Sharpton associate himself with Louis Farrakhan?

The white man is our mortal enemy, and we cannot accept him. I will fight to see that vicious beast go down into the lake of fire prepared for him from the beginning, that he never rise again to give any innocent black man, woman or child the hell that he has delighted in pouring on us for 400 years." -- Louis Farrakhan who campaigned for congresswoman Cynthia McKinney in 2002, City College audience in New York

How does whether or not Sharpton is a racist depend on "if a white man said the reverse"?

Because if a white man said the black press was evil, he'd be on the front page, deemed a racist.

Yes, Al Sharpton is a racist, but he is the worse kind of racist. He hides his racism behind the badge of "civil rights". Al Sharpton's soul is in darkness. Al Sharpton is the "wolf in sheep's clothing" that Jesus warned us about. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Wright, Farrakhan, Obama, etc.

u really wanna play that game?

Sure, let's play. Obama sat in Rev. Wright's racist church for 20 years and then disowned him when it became public in 2008.

your charges of racism, are incredibly ironic..considering your new avatar.

That does not answer the question.

Please explain why my avatar is "racist".

Ignore it.

In his world you're a racist, but Al Sharpton, who's made a career out of such racial demagoguery, isn't.

What do you mean it doesn't answer the question?

If a white man said/did the exact same things as Sharpton, that man would be branded a racist.

The bottom line is to be a racist one must....

#1 Think themselves superior to other races based solely on race.
#2 Hatred or intolerant for another based purely on race.

Without those two things you have bigotry, their is a difference. The problem now days is to many think that anything said involving race that may be negative (no matter if it is true or not) is racist or racism. That is total bull****.

Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton are race baiters and opportunists, this does not make anyone a racist.

That seems about right...

Then let's apply your standard to all the white people liberals slam, and you'll find that quite a few of those accused aren't racist.

I am so sick of the hypocrisy.
