Is calling other people politically correct insulting, especially when they agree they are so? You yourself said that you were a three by a given definition. I provided another and suggested by that definition it would be significantly higher. I have a difficult time believing that assuming someone is PC based on their own admissions as well as other input into a thread such as this could be offensive to anyone.

You made the assumption that, based on your definition, people would be a 10. I indicated that I was a 3... by a DIFFERENT definition. Your assumption was incorrect, as your definition did not apply to my assessment. That was you first error. Your second error is defining for someone else what their level is. That is not your place. Your third error, above, is assuming that my admission of being a 3 is offensive. It is not. YOUR accusation was attacking. You don't seem to understand this. I suppose that is your fourth error.

Anyway, posters label one another as racists and bigots on a daily bases everywhere on these threads, but there seems to be selective sensitivity as concerns the label of PC.

Labeling someone as PC is not the issue. The fact that you have not figured this out is your fifth error.

Btw, mediocrity permeates this thread and this site. The word in itself is perhaps not politically correct, but then it should not be considered heresy, even at the alter of political correctness.

This is nothing but your opinion. The fact that you present this as fact is your sixth error.

You are really not doing very well.

It is indeed nothing but my opinion. Were you under the impression I was spreading gospel? I am certainly not that self-righteous, nor am I condescending enough to presume to lecture others on their multitude of "errors". Henceforth, I shall desist, not trusting myself to refrain from becoming decidedly politically incorrect and actually insulting you well beyond the implication of mediocrity.

Ciao

If you make an error, I'll point it out. Don't like it? Try not to make so many errors. Beyond that, it might be a good idea for you to work on how you communicate. If you say, "Btw, mediocrity permeates this thread and this site." you are communicating this in such a way as it is presented as fact. "IMO" is always a good way to start statements such as these. THAT way, you won't get confronted on making comments that are presented inaccurately. I always try to be helpful.

I used to be PC, but now I've gotten rid of most of my Liberal undertones.

i dont know but i try to avoid hurting the others even if i cant lie and act like a politician

All of my political beliefs are correct so I vote 10

On a relevant note: I would give myself about a 5. I don't believe in being disrespectful (and political correctness is a form of respect) but I don't believe in going overboard and making big deals out of nothing.

The best I can do on the PC front is practice "live and let live". If that is not good enough then I go to plan B which is "screw em if they cannot take a joke".

We both know that your problem with me is that you cannot hold your own, thus the abuse of what might be considered power. Either way, it is Mikey Mouse, or try to get your sycophants to agree.

This is going to be entertaining.

We both know that you have no ability to hold your own in debate with me... proven here. Your comments are nothing but false bravado.

Could you define that difference?

In my opinion the difference is along these lines:

Politically correct -avoiding language that might offend anyone, especially with respect to gender, race, or ethnic background. In other words in order not to offend someone who is a "minority".

Politness - showing good manners, being refined or cultured without taking account of race gender or ethnic background.

Being PC is more of an ideology while politeness has to do simply with behavior.

I couldn't disagree more. There are all sorts of attempts at 'political correctness' that have nothing to do with minorities. Trying to control speech and meaning could be said to be a symptom of excessive attempts at 'political correctness', such as 'Marriage is between one man and one woman' for example. Quite the opposite of attempting not to offend minorities.

Measured and sensible people will always tailor their language so as to avoid gratuitous or even unintended offence. That IS good manners, but many of those who have a nostalgia for bigoted unpleasantness will call that 'political correctness' in a pejorative sense.

And so .... we will agree to disagree Andalublue.

That is politeness! ;) :)

Just wanted to add , these PC people usually have good intentions and would like the creation of a perfect world where everybody loves each other, there is no war, famine or pestilence and the sun shines 24 hours a day. And the way to achieve this is being nice to each other but ignoring the fact that a lot of people won't be nice to you in return and will take advantage of you.

In other words the politically correct tend to be naive, inexperience in life and live in their own little dream world.

Wakey, wakey brothers and sisters! ;)

Personally, I value truthfulness over happy-happy-joy-joy feelings, any day of the week. :) When you can get to the truth of someone's feelings, you can work toward something productive.

To me, political correctness can take many forms, and perpetrators of political correctness are not exclusive to any group of people or ideology. Political correctness, in my opinion, generally takes the form of attempting to control thought or speech through the perpetuation of certain myths and narratives that a particular group takes for granted, and when people expose those myths for what they are, they are attacked by the "politically correct" for telling it like it is.

Classic example: "OMG! He criticized the Israeli government! Therefore he is an anti-Semite! (or subscribing to an anti-Semitic argument!)" or

"You criticized the war! You are unpatriotic and unAmerican!" or

"Pro-life? You hate women!"

"You're pro-choice? You hate babies!"

At the same time, I'm entirely peeved when people simply label an opposing argument as politically correct because they are incapable of understanding nuance (as opposed to black and white), or are simply ignorant. This comes up repeatedly in transgender threads, for example ("transgender folk are lying to themselves! They are pretending to be something they are not! Acknowledging transgenderism and promoting SRS as a treatment is simply political correctness!"). This behavior also crops up when people make the argument that Islam as an entire religion is somehow inherently more evil or inferior to the other Abrahamic faiths.

I am a 1. Anyone can tell you that.

Thats more stupidity and bad logic than anything else.

There, that was crying for an adjustment.

IMO, todays political correctness is overdone....to a silly extreme.
I detest this she/he/person ridiculousness.
We need to be much more tolerant and understanding...
IMO, I am at a "4"...

walking on eggshells to not hurt people's feelings?

Causing people to "walk on egg shells" make me uncomfortable...
Politeness and sensitivity - important..
PC - less less so.

I don't believe in political correctness. It's a way to control people and bend them to your will.

However, I do believe in not being an ass to people, like coming up to black people and calling them the N-word, etc.
